Choosing the Right SL165s G7 Processor

• A second processor unlocks the other twelve DIMM slots. With one processor fitted only half the memory slots are available, and a DIMM must not be installed in a slot whose processor is absent — which is often the real reason to add the second CPU.

• Count the power budget across the chassis. Trays share the s6500 supplies, so a processor upgrade in one node is a change to a total that three other nodes are also drawing on.
• Heatsink and fans are in the box. No separate thermal kit is needed for these processors.
