A second processor needs the Second CPU Fan Kit as a fourth fan, and every 300W-or-higher part — 6745P, 6747P, 6760P, 6767P and 6787P — needs the Redundant Fan Kit and the Second CPU Fan Kit together, even with one processor fitted.

Which Xeon 6 for the ML350 Gen12, and what does it need with it?

The 225W and 300W lines are the ones to watch. At 225W the heat sink changes from Standard to Performance; at 300W the Redundant Fan Kit becomes mandatory as well, fitted together with the Second CPU Fan Kit even in a single-processor tower. The 6736P, 36 cores at 205W, is the largest core count that still takes the Standard heat sink.

Choosing the Right ML350 Gen12 Processor

• Add the heat sink to every order. HPE states that all SKUs ship with the processor only: the Standard Heat Sink Kit below 225W, the Performance Heat Sink Kit at 225W and above, one per processor.
• A second processor needs a fourth fan. The CTO server ships with three fans and the Second CPU Fan Kit is required for any two-processor configuration.
• 300W and above means both fan kits. The 6745P, 6747P, 6760P, 6767P and 6787P all require the Redundant Fan Kit and the Second CPU Fan Kit.
• The second processor is worth more than its cores. It brings the other 16 DIMM slots, PCIe slots 5 to 10, the 2x16 secondary riser and the CPU2 OCP B cable kits into play; without it, x16 adapters, GPUs and InfiniBand have nowhere to go.

Does an ML350 Gen12 processor kit include a heat sink?

Can I mix two different processors in an ML350 Gen12?
