HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen10 Power Supplies
Genuine HPE power supplies for the HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen10, new and refurbished. Redundancy on this tower is a build option rather than a given: the 500W Flex Slot Platinum hot-plug supply is the only one that can be paired, it needs an enablement kit before it will fit, and mixing two different supplies in one server is not allowed.
ML30 Gen10 Power Supply Specifications
- Redundant option: HPE 500W Flex Slot Platinum Hot Plug Low Halogen Power Supply Kit (865408-B21), rated to 94% efficiency with a standard C-14 inlet
- Enablement: the HPE ML30 Gen10 4U RPS Enablement Kit (P06305-B21) is required before a Flex Slot supply can be fitted; two Flex Slot supplies then give 1+1 redundancy
- Entry supplies: 350W non-hot-plug factory-integrated units, Bronze-level at 85% efficiency and Gold-level at 92%, single and non-redundant
- Mixing: not allowed — two different power supplies may not be installed in the same server
- Input: 100 to 120 VAC and 200 to 240 VAC per supply
- Heat output: the 500W supply is rated at a maximum 1902 BTU/hr at 100 VAC, 1840 BTU/hr at 200 VAC and 1832 BTU/hr at 240 VAC
- Cooling: one non-hot-plug system fan module, with a front PCI fan module supplied in the Front PCI Fan and Baffle Kit (P06303-B21) on models that need it
- Regulatory: from 1 March 2020 only the 350W Gold-level supply and the 500W supply meet the EU Lot 9 requirement for CE marking; HPE advises against ordering the Bronze-level 350W unit (820303-B21) where CE marking is required
Redundancy is two parts, not one. The 4U RPS Enablement Kit has to be fitted before any Flex Slot supply will go in, and 1+1 then needs two matching 500W Flex Slot Platinum units — mixing two different supplies in one server is not allowed. The 350W entry supplies are single and not hot-plug.
Which supply is fitted, and can it be made redundant?
| Supply | Efficiency | Hot-plug | Redundancy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 350W Bronze-level (820303-B21) | 85% | No | None — a single supply |
| 350W Gold-level (P21652-B21) | 92% | No | None — a single supply |
| 500W Flex Slot Platinum (865408-B21) | 94% | Yes | 1+1 with a second matching unit |
Moving an ML30 Gen10 to redundant power is a chassis change rather than a spare-part purchase: the 350W supplies are factory-integrated units that cannot be paired or hot-swapped, so a server built on one needs the 4U RPS Enablement Kit fitted before any Flex Slot supply will go in. Once a machine is on Flex Slot supplies, the rule is simply that both must be the same — a second 500W unit, not a larger one.
Choosing the Right ML30 Gen10 Power Supply
- Read the label on the installed unit first. Mixing two different supplies is not supported, so what is in the server today is the specification for what goes in beside it.
- Redundancy is two parts, not one. A 1+1 configuration is the enablement kit plus two matching 500W Flex Slot supplies, and a single supply in the bay is not redundant whatever its rating.
- The 350W units are not hot-plug. Replacing one means powering the server down, which is the practical reason to move a machine that matters onto Flex Slot supplies.
- Watch the CE requirement. HPE advises against the Bronze-level 350W supply in territories that require CE marking, where the Gold-level 350W and the 500W units are the compliant choices.
- Cooling is not redundant either. There is one non-hot-plug system fan module, and 10Gb cards, M.2 drives and GPUs each call for the Front PCI Fan and Baffle Kit on top of it.

ML30 Gen10 Power Supplies FAQ
Can I mix power supplies in an ML30 Gen10?
No. HPE states that mixing two different power supplies is not allowed. Both units in a redundant server must be the same 500W Flex Slot supply.
How do I make an ML30 Gen10 power supply redundant?
Fit the HPE ML30 Gen10 4U RPS Enablement Kit and two 500W Flex Slot Platinum hot-plug supplies. Two Flex Slot supplies together provide 1+1 redundancy.
Are ML30 Gen10 power supplies hot-plug?
The 500W Flex Slot Platinum supply is. The 350W entry supplies are not, so replacing one of those means shutting the server down first.
What wattage does an ML30 Gen10 use?
The documented options are a 350W non-hot-plug supply, in Bronze-level or Gold-level efficiency, and the 500W Flex Slot Platinum hot-plug supply rated to 94% efficiency.
How much heat does the 500W supply produce?
A maximum of 1902 BTU/hr at 100 VAC, 1840 BTU/hr at 200 VAC and 1832 BTU/hr at 240 VAC, according to the QuickSpecs for this server.
Is the ML30 Gen10 cooling redundant?
No. The server has one non-hot-plug system fan module. A second, front PCI fan module is supplied in the Front PCI Fan and Baffle Kit, but it serves add-in cards rather than providing fan redundancy.
