DL385 Gen11 Memory Specifications
- Memory type: DDR5 ECC Registered (RDIMM), with 3DS RDIMM for the highest capacities. The DL385 Gen11 does not support LRDIMM, UDIMM, persistent memory, or non-ECC memory.
- Speeds: Up to 4800 MT/s with 4th Gen AMD EPYC™ 9004 (Genoa). 5th Gen AMD EPYC™ 9005 (Turin) uses DDR5-6400 modules, which operate at up to 6000 MT/s on this dual-socket platform.
- Capacities: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB modules.
- Maximum memory: Up to 6TB across 24 DIMM slots with two processors installed — 12 DIMM slots per processor (one DIMM per channel) across all 24 AMD EPYC memory channels.
Before you order, match your memory to your CPU. The DL385 Gen11 runs either 4th Gen AMD EPYC™ 9004 “Genoa” (DDR5-4800) or 5th Gen AMD EPYC™ 9005 “Turin” (DDR5-6400) processors, and your CPU sets the memory speed. Per HPE, faster DIMMs paired with a CPU that supports a lower speed run at the slower speed, and mixing slower and faster DIMMs forces the entire system to the slowest module. As a dual-socket server, install matching DIMMs on both processors and keep memory balanced across them for full bandwidth.
Memory Population Rules
For best performance, install matched DDR5 RDIMM kits, fill the white DIMM slots first, and balance DIMMs evenly across both processors. What type of memory does the HPE DL385 Gen11 use?
DDR5 ECC Registered (RDIMM) memory, with 3DS RDIMM used for the largest (256GB) modules. LRDIMM, unbuffered (UDIMM), and persistent memory are not supported. The same RDIMM type works with both 4th Gen (Genoa) and 5th Gen (Turin) AMD EPYC CPUs.
How much RAM can the DL385 Gen11 hold?
Up to 6TB with two processors installed, using 24 x 256GB DDR5 RDIMMs (12 DIMM slots per processor). With only one processor installed, half the slots are active — 12 DIMMs for up to 3TB.
What is the maximum memory speed?
