HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen11 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE Flex Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen11, new and refurbished. Two rules govern every order on this page: a Flex Slot supply needs the 4U RPS Enablement Kit before it will fit, and HPE does not allow two different power supplies in the same server.

ML30 Gen11 Power Supply Specifications

  • Flex Slot supplies: 500W Platinum at 94% efficiency, 800W Titanium at 96% and 1000W Titanium at 96%, all hot-plug and tool-less
  • Entry supply: the 350W Platinum ATX supply carried by the entry build is non-redundant, not hot-plug and rated at 94% multi-output efficiency — a server fitted with it has no Flex Slot cage
  • Enablement kit: the ML30 Gen11 4U RPS Enablement Kit is required to support the 500W, 800W and 1000W Flex Slot supplies
  • Redundancy: two Flex Slot supplies give 1+1 redundancy, and HPE requires the second to carry the same part number as the first
  • Mixing: not allowed — the QuickSpecs states that mixing two different power supplies is not permitted
  • Input and heat: rated line voltage is 100 to 120 VAC and 200 to 240 VAC, and the 500W supply is rated at a maximum 1902 BTU/hr at 100 VAC, falling to 1832 BTU/hr at 240 VAC

A Flex Slot supply needs the cage before it needs the wattage. HPE requires the ML30 Gen11 4U RPS Enablement Kit to support the 500W, 800W and 1000W Flex Slot units, so a server built with the 350W ATX supply has nowhere to seat one. Mixing two different supplies is not allowed, and the 800W Titanium is rated for its 800W output at 200 to 240 VAC only.

Which wattage does your configuration need?

SupplyEfficiencyHot-plugRated output range
350W Platinum ATX94%, multi-outputNo350W at 100 to 230 VAC
500W Flex Slot Platinum94%, single outputYes500W at 100 to 240 VAC
800W Flex Slot Titanium96%, single outputYes800W at 200 to 240 VAC only
1000W Flex Slot Titanium96%, single outputYes1000W at 100 to 240 VAC

The 800W Titanium is the one that surprises people: HPE rates its 800W output at 200 to 240 VAC only, so on a standard 120V office circuit it is the wrong supply for a tower that is usually plugged into whatever socket is nearest. The 500W Platinum and the 1000W Titanium are both rated across the full 100 to 240 VAC range. For a single-socket server with at most four DIMMs, eight drives and one or two cards, 500W covers a great deal; HPE publishes a Power Advisor for sizing a specific configuration.

Choosing the Right ML30 Gen11 Power Supply

  • Read the label on the installed unit first. Matching part numbers is a requirement for a redundant pair, not a preference, so the supply already fitted is the specification for the second.
  • Check for the Flex Slot cage. A server built with the 350W ATX supply needs the 4U RPS Enablement Kit before a Flex Slot unit has anywhere to seat, and that is a chassis part rather than an electrical one.
  • Watch the line voltage on the 800W. Its rated output is documented at 200 to 240 VAC; if the rack or the office runs at 120V, the 500W or 1000W units are the ones rated for it.
  • Redundancy means two identical units. A single supply in an enabled chassis is not redundant, however high its rating, and 1+1 comes only from a matched pair.
  • Efficiency grade is part of the match. Platinum and Titanium units are different supplies, so an 800W Titanium is not a drop-in partner for a 500W Platinum.

ML30 Gen11 Power Supplies FAQ

Can I mix power supplies in an ML30 Gen11?
No. HPE states that mixing two different power supplies is not allowed, and that a second supply added for redundancy must carry the same part number as the first.

What is the 4U RPS Enablement Kit for?
It is what allows the server to take Flex Slot power supplies at all. HPE requires it for the 500W, 800W and 1000W redundant units, so a machine built with the 350W ATX supply needs the kit before a Flex Slot unit will seat.

Does the 800W power supply work on a 120V circuit?
Its rated 800W output is documented at 200 to 240 VAC. The 500W Platinum and the 1000W Titanium are rated across 100 to 240 VAC, so those are the units to choose where only a standard 120V feed is available.

How do I get power redundancy on an ML30 Gen11?
Fit two identical Flex Slot supplies in a chassis with the RPS Enablement Kit. That gives 1+1 redundancy with hot-plug replacement. The 350W ATX supply is non-redundant and not hot-plug.

What is the difference between Platinum and Titanium here?
Efficiency grade. The 500W Flex Slot unit is Platinum at 94% single-output efficiency, while the 800W and 1000W Flex Slot units are Titanium at 96%. They are different supplies and cannot be paired with each other.

How much heat does the server put out?
HPE rates the 500W supply at a maximum 1902 BTU/hr at 100 VAC, 1840 BTU/hr at 200 VAC and 1832 BTU/hr at 240 VAC. Actual output depends on the configuration, and the HPE Power Advisor sizes a specific build.
