HPE ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE Common Slot power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL380p Gen8, new and refurbished. The chassis takes two hot-plug CS supplies for optional 1+1 or n+n redundancy, and the rule attached is absolute: all power supplies inside a server must be exactly the same model.

DL380p Gen8 Power Supply Specifications

  • Wattages: 460W, 750W and 1200W Common Slot kits, so the supply can be right-sized to the configuration
  • Efficiency tiers: Platinum Plus at 94% with Intelligent Power Discovery, Platinum at 94% without it, Gold at 92%, and a 750W Titanium at 96%
  • Rated steady-state output: the 1200W gives 800W at 100 VAC, 900W at 120 VAC and 1200W only at 200 to 240 VAC; the 750W and 460W hold their rating at both
  • Input: rated line voltage 100–120 VAC and 200–240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz, the 1200W drawing 10 A at 100 VAC, 4.9 A at 200 VAC
  • DC and 277VAC variants: a 750W -48VDC, a 1200W 380VDC and 500W, 750W and 1200W 277VAC kits, several of which ship without a power cord
  • Mixing rule: all supplies must share output and efficiency rating, and mixing Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus is not supported

Check your feed before you size the supply. The 1200W Common Slot supply is rated 800W at 100 VAC, 900W at 120 VAC and 1200W at 200 to 240 VAC, so low-line power costs it a third of its label. The 750W and 460W supplies hold their full rating at both voltages. Mixing power supplies in one server is not supported — match the exact model already installed.

What does each DL380p Gen8 power supply actually deliver?

460W Common Slot460 W460 W460 W1794 / 1725 BTU/hr

1200W Common Slot800 W900 W1200 W3530 / 4600 BTU/hr

Only the 1200W supply is voltage-sensitive, and it is the one a loaded server usually wants: on a 100V feed it is rated to 800W, two thirds of its label. It is also what HPE requires for the double-wide graphics riser and for two double-wide accelerator cards.

Choosing the Right DL380p Gen8 Power Supply

  • Never mix models or tiers. Every supply in the server must be exactly the same model, so order the part number already installed.
  • Check your feed before you size. Two processors, 24 DIMMs and PCIe cards on a 100V circuit is where the 1200W supply gives back a third of its rating.
  • Match the tier to the feature. Platinum Plus is what Intelligent Power Discovery requires; the 750W Titanium is the 96% option; Gold is the 92% baseline.
  • Accelerator builds force the 1200W. Two double-wide graphics cards require both double-wide risers and the 1200W supply.
  • Refurbished supplies are a low-risk buy — sealed, tested hot-plug modules, and the usual way to fill the second bay for 1+1.

DL380p Gen8 Power Supplies FAQ

What power supplies does the HPE ProLiant DL380p Gen8 use?
HPE Common Slot hot-plug supplies in 460W, 750W and 1200W. The QuickSpecs list Platinum Plus kits at 94% efficiency with Intelligent Power Discovery, Platinum kits at 94% without it, Gold kits at 92%, and a 750W Titanium kit at 96%.

How many power supplies does a DL380p Gen8 hold?
Two, in hot-plug bays at the rear. Optional 1+1 or n+n redundancy comes from adding a second supply through a power supply option kit.

Does the 1200W supply deliver 1200W on a 120V circuit?
No. Its rated steady-state output is 800W at 100 VAC, 900W at 120 VAC and 1200W at 200 to 240 VAC. The 750W and 460W supplies, by contrast, deliver their full rating at 100 to 120 VAC as well as 200 to 240 VAC.

Can I mix power supplies in a DL380p Gen8?
No. HPE states that mixing power supplies in the same server is not supported, that all supplies inside a server must be exactly the same model, and that mixing Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus certified supplies is not supported. Non-matched supplies produce errors and fail.

Do DL380p Gen8 power supply kits include a power cord?
The AC option kits contain the power supply, an IEC power cable and PDU IEC cables. The 750W -48VDC, 1200W 380VDC and 1200W 277VAC kits are listed as shipping without a cord. ProLiant DL servers ship with a 6-foot C14 to C13 PDU cord, so a NEMA 5-15 to C13 cord is ordered separately.

How much heat does a DL380p Gen8 power supply put out?
HPE quotes maximums per supply of 1794 and 1725 BTU/hr at 100 and 200 VAC for the 460W, 2925 and 2812 for the 750W, and 3530 and 4600 for the 1200W. Use the HPE Power Advisor to size a specific configuration.
