HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen11 Memory
The DL20 Gen11 has 4 DIMM slots on two channels and takes HPE DDR5-4800 unbuffered ECC DIMMs (UDIMMs) in 16GB and 32GB. Every kit on this page fits every DL20 Gen11, so the only decision is how much memory you want. Maximum is 128GB with 32GB in every slot.

Specifications match the HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen11 QuickSpecs. Registered DIMMs from larger ProLiant servers do not work in this server.
How population and speed fit together
The processor has 2 memory channels with 2 slots each. Two matching DIMMs, one per channel, give full bandwidth; four fill the server. The kits are rated DDR5-4800; HPE's kit table gives 4400 MT/s with one DIMM per channel on every listed processor, and with two per channel 4000 MT/s for the 16GB kit and 3600 MT/s for the 32GB kit.

HPE recommends 1, 2 or 4 DIMMs for balanced performance and populates the slots in the order 3-A, 1-B, 4-C, 2-D; the picker uses those counts. Within a channel both DIMMs must be the same capacity and rank.
Three rules that avoid a return
1 Unbuffered ECC only
This server takes ECC unbuffered DIMMs only. HPE: "Only UDIMMs are supported on DL20 Gen11. No support for RDIMMs and LRDIMMs", and non-ECC UDIMMs are not supported either.
2 Keep each channel symmetric
HPE requires the same capacity and rank on both slots of a channel (16GB with 16GB, 32GB with 32GB). Two identical DIMMs, one per channel, run in dual-channel mode.
3 Match what is already installed
Adding to existing memory? Read the HPE part number on the DIMM label and buy the same kit. Memory from earlier ProLiant generations is not qualified for this server.

What type of memory does the DL20 Gen11 use?
HPE DDR5-4800 Standard Memory unbuffered ECC DIMMs (UDIMMs), 16GB single rank and 32GB dual rank. Registered and load-reduced DIMMs are not supported.
Will the memory run at 4800 MT/s?
No. The kits are rated 4800 MT/s, but HPE's kit table gives 4400 MT/s with one DIMM per channel on every listed Xeon 6300, Xeon E-2400 and Pentium G7400 processor, and 4000 MT/s (16GB) or 3600 MT/s (32GB) with two DIMMs per channel.
