Because every slot is its own channel, four modules is both the capacity maximum and the bandwidth maximum: there is no configuration that trades speed for capacity here, and no reason to stop at two modules other than budget. With one or two DIMMs installed the server runs, but half or more of the memory channels are idle, which matters on a platform whose whole purpose is packet processing.

Choosing the Right DL110 Gen12 Memory

  • Fill all four channels when you can. The Xeon 6 SoC has four channels and each slot is one of them; a two-module configuration leaves half the memory bandwidth unused.

  • Every kit is a single DIMM. A 512GB server is four 128GB kits, not one boxed set.
  • Do not assume other DDR5 fits. The document specifies DDR5-6400 EC8 Registered Smart Memory and lists nothing else; slower DDR5 grades from earlier ProLiant generations are not listed for this server.
  • Stand-alone SKUs end in -B21. If a quote shows a -F21 part number, that is HPE's factory-integration twin of the same kit, not a different module.
