All four are the same PE9010 family in the same 2280 form factor, so the decision is capacity and whether the encryption variant is required. Two drives fill the server; there is no cage kit, riser or backplane that adds a third, and anything larger than 3.84TB lives on the network.
Choosing the Right DL110 Gen12 Drive
- Buy two identical drives if you plan to mirror. HPE states mixing of M.2 drives is not allowed when VROC is selected, so a RAID 1 boot pair means two of the same part number.
- Budget for the VROC licence. RAID 0 or 1 comes from Intel VROC, which HPE says is disabled by default and requires licensing; without it the two slots are two independent drives.
- Self-encrypting is a separate part number. The 960GB SED and the plain 960GB are different SKUs; a mirror should use two of one or two of the other.
- Read Intensive is the only class offered. Every listed drive is Mainstream Performance Read Intensive, which suits the boot-and-configuration role these slots play in a vRAN node.
- Check the form factor of anything not on this list. The slots take 2280 and 22110; the listed HPE parts are all 2280.
