HPE Gen11 Server Memory
Every HPE ProLiant Gen11 server takes DDR5 ECC memory, and the kit depends on the processor family: 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable and 4th Gen AMD EPYC (9004) use DDR5-4800 kits, 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable uses DDR5-5600, and 5th Gen AMD EPYC (9005) uses DDR5-6400. The ML30 and DL20 Gen11 are the exceptions, with DDR5-4800 unbuffered ECC DIMMs, and the four-processor DL560 Gen11 lists DDR5-4800 kits for 4th Gen processors only. DDR4 kits sold for Gen10 Plus do not fit any Gen11 server.

How processor, kit and speed fit together
The Intel servers have 8 memory channels per processor with 2 slots each: one DIMM in every channel runs the kit at its full rating, and filling the second slot doubles capacity and steps the speed down. The AMD servers have 12 channels per processor with one slot each, so there is no second-slot penalty and bandwidth scales with the number of channels you fill.

Silver and some Gold processors are rated below the kit speed and run the memory at their own rating. The speed the server delivers is the lowest of the processor rating, the population and the slowest installed DIMM. Each model page gives the exact figures for that server.
Gen11 or Gen10 Plus? How to tell
The two generations look alike and share model names, but their memory is not interchangeable. The processor decides it.

Read the processor model. 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors are the 4xx series: Silver 4410, Gold 5420, Gold 6430, Platinum 8460. 5th Gen are the 5xx series: Silver 4510, Gold 5520, Gold 6530, Platinum 8562. 3rd Gen, which means Gen10 Plus, are the 3xx series: Silver 4314, Gold 5318, Gold 6338. AMD: EPYC 9004 and 9005 are Gen11; EPYC 7002 and 7003 are Gen10 Plus.

Adding to memory that is already installed? Read the HPE part number on the DIMM label and buy that number. It cannot be wrong.
Rules that hold for every Gen11 server
1 Match the kit to the processor
DDR5-4800 kits are listed for 4th Gen Intel and 4th Gen EPYC, DDR5-5600 for 5th Gen Intel and DDR5-6400 for 5th Gen EPYC. HPE does not allow mixing 4800 and 5600 kits in one server.
2 Do not mix x4 and x8, or 3DS and non-3DS
HPE does not support mixing x4 and x8 DIMMs, or 3DS with non-3DS DIMMs, and the 96GB kits cannot be mixed with any other capacity. Keep every DIMM in a bank the same, and populate both processors identically in even quantities.
3 Buy -B21, not -F21
Both suffixes describe the same module, but -F21 is sold only inside a factory-built server. The -B21 kits on this page are the ones you can buy and install yourself.
HPE Gen11 memory questions
How much memory can an HPE Gen11 server hold?
It depends on the model: 16TB in the DL560 Gen11 (64 slots, four processors), 8TB in the DL360, DL380 and ML350 Gen11 (32 slots), 6TB in the DL365 and DL385 Gen11 (24 slots), 3TB in the DL325 and DL345 Gen11 (12 slots), 2TB in the DL320 Gen11 and 1.5TB in the ML110 Gen11 (16 slots), and 128GB in the ML30 and DL20 Gen11 (4 slots). Each figure assumes the largest DIMM in every slot and HPE’s cooling conditions for 96GB and larger DIMMs; the model pages spell those out.
What type of memory do HPE Gen11 servers use?
HPE DDR5 EC8 registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 96GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities. The ML30 and DL20 Gen11 use DDR5-4800 unbuffered ECC DIMMs in 16GB and 32GB. LRDIMM, non-ECC and DDR4 memory are not supported on any Gen11 server.
Can I use DDR4 or Gen10 Plus memory in a Gen11 server?
No. Gen11 is DDR5 only, and the slots are keyed differently, so a DDR4-3200 kit sold for Gen10 Plus will not seat. The same applies in reverse: Gen11 DDR5 kits do not fit Gen10 Plus servers.
Which speed should I buy: DDR5-4800, 5600 or 6400?
The processor decides: DDR5-4800 for 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable and 4th Gen EPYC 9004, DDR5-5600 for 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable, DDR5-6400 for 5th Gen EPYC 9005. The table above shows the speed each combination runs at with one or two DIMMs per channel.
Do the DL360 Gen11 and DL380 Gen11 use the same memory?
Yes. The DL320, DL360, DL380, ML110 and ML350 Gen11 list the same DDR5-4800 and DDR5-5600 kit families in their QuickSpecs (the DL560 Gen11 the DDR5-4800 family only), and the DL325, DL345, DL365 and DL385 Gen11 share their DDR5-4800 and DDR5-6400 families. Match the HPE part number rather than buying generic DDR5.
