HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen9 Parts

The HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen9 is the storage-dense two-socket 2U rack server built on the Intel C610 chipset, taking Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors across 16 DDR4 DIMM slots and a front end that runs from four non-hot-plug large form factor bays up to twelve hot-plug LFF or sixteen SFF. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.

DL180 Gen9 Platform at a Glance

  • Processors: up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4, 36 cores in total, with an E5-2600 v3 to v4 upgrade path supported for processors up to 105W
  • Memory: 16 DDR4 slots — eight per processor, four channels per processor, two DIMMs per channel — taking Registered DIMMs to 512GB or Load Reduced DIMMs to 1TB
  • Drive bays: 8 or 16 hot-plug SFF, 8 or 12 hot-plug LFF, or 4 LFF non-hot-plug, depending on which chassis was built
  • Maximum internal storage: 120TB on twelve 10TB LFF drives, 32TB on sixteen 2TB SFF drives, and 61.4TB on sixteen 3.84TB SFF solid state drives
  • Storage controller: embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i on entry and base models, with the H240 Smart Host Bus Adapter or the Flexible Smart Array P840/4G on base, storage and performance models
  • Networking: embedded HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 361i adapter on the Intel I350 controller, two RJ-45 ports, plus an optional dedicated iLO management port
  • Expansion: PCI Express 3.0 throughout; one primary riser is mandatory, and a second riser adds three more slots once a second processor is installed
  • Power and cooling: a 550W non-redundant supply at 80 Plus Silver, or 900W AC 240VDC power input modules at 80 Plus Gold on a redundant power backplane, with two to five hot-swap fans
  • Management: HPE iLO 4 with 2GB NAND, Intelligent Provisioning, UEFI boot with a Legacy BIOS option, and a Micro SD slot

Two things decide most DL180 Gen9 orders: the drive cage and the controller behind it. HPE built this chassis as 4 LFF non-hot-plug, 8 or 12 hot-plug LFF, or 8 SFF growing to 16 — and the twelve-bay LFF front end reaches 120TB where sixteen SFF bays stop at 32TB. The embedded B140i handles SATA only, so a SAS array needs an H240 or a Smart Array card as well.

DL180 Gen9 Parts FAQ

What processors does the DL180 Gen9 support?
Up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4 processors on the Intel C610 chipset, for 36 cores in total. Mixing different processor models in one server is not supported, so a second CPU has to match the first.

How much memory can a DL180 Gen9 take?
512GB using Registered DIMMs, or 1TB using Load Reduced DIMMs. The server has 16 DDR4 slots, eight per processor, and reaches the 1TB figure with sixteen 64GB quad-rank LRDIMMs at 2400MT/s.

How many drives does a DL180 Gen9 hold?
It depends on the chassis. HPE built this server as 4 LFF non-hot-plug, 8 or 12 hot-plug LFF, or 8 SFF growing to 16 with a second drive cage.

What is the maximum internal storage of a DL180 Gen9?
120TB on twelve 10TB hot-plug LFF drives. The SFF chassis reaches 32TB on sixteen 2TB drives, or 61.4TB on 3.84TB SFF solid state drives.

Which RAID controller is built into the DL180 Gen9?
An embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i, supporting up to 8 SATA drives at 6Gb/s with RAID 0, 1, 10 and 5. SAS drives need an H240 Smart HBA or a Smart Array card instead.

How many network ports does a DL180 Gen9 have as standard?
Two. The embedded HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 361i adapter provides two RJ-45 ports, and a dedicated iLO remote management port is a separate option.
