Which servers take a Standard Carrier drive?
The ProLiant servers before Gen8, whose hot-plug bays took one carrier. No Gen8 or later server lists a Standard Carrier drive: Gen8 and Gen9 servers take 3.5-inch drives on the Smart Carrier (SC), and most Gen10 and every later server the Low Profile (LP) carrier. Each product page names the servers the drive is for.
What is a converter carrier?
A 3.5-inch carrier that holds a 2.5-inch drive, so a 15K rpm 2.5-inch drive can go in a 3.5-inch bay. HPE writes it CC, STC or SCC in the name; the drive fits the 3.5-inch bay its carrier is made for.
Does a SAS hard drive work on the embedded controller?
No. The embedded SATA controller runs SATA drives only; a SAS drive needs a Smart Array controller.
