HPE ProLiant ML310e Gen8 Parts

The HPE ProLiant ML310e Gen8 is the single-socket 4U tower built on the Intel C204 chipset for remote sites and branch offices, with four Unbuffered ECC DDR3 slots and a front end of four large form factor bays or eight small form factor ones. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.

ML310e Gen8 Platform at a Glance

  • Processor: one socket, two or four cores, from dual-core Intel Celeron and Pentium parts through the Core i3-3220 and i3-3240 to the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2 family
  • Cache: 3MB of L3 on Xeon, Core i3 and Pentium models, 2MB on Celeron models
  • Memory: four DDR3 slots — two channels, two DIMMs per channel — taking Unbuffered ECC DIMMs only, to a maximum of 32GB
  • Drive bays: four 3.5-inch LFF bays in hot-plug or non-hot-plug form, or eight 2.5-inch SFF hot-plug bays, depending on how the server was built
  • Maximum internal storage: 16TB on four 4TB LFF drives, or 9.6TB on eight 1.2TB SFF SAS drives
  • Storage controller: embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B120i, SATA only, with six internal SATA connectors and RAID 0, 1 and 1+0
  • SAS support: not on the embedded controller — HPE requires a standup Smart Array card or host bus adapter, and specifies one for the eight-bay SFF configuration
  • Networking: embedded HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 330i Adapter on a BCM5717 controller, two RJ-45 ports, one of them shared with iLO
  • Expansion: four PCIe slots, two of them Gen3 capable when a Xeon E3-1200 v2 processor is fitted
  • Power: a 350W non-redundant, non-hot-plug Multi-Output supply on the Entry models, or 460W Common Slot Gold hot-plug supplies with optional 1+1 redundancy
  • Management: embedded HPE iLO 4 with Agentless Management, Active Health System and Intelligent Provisioning, plus an internal SD slot

Two facts shape most ML310e Gen8 orders: the embedded controller is SATA only, and the standard power supply is not redundant. The Dynamic Smart Array B120i will not run a SAS drive at all, so SAS means a standup Smart Array card or an H-series HBA in one of the four PCIe slots. On power, the pre-configured Entry models ship a single 350W Multi-Output supply that is neither hot-plug nor redundant.

ML310e Gen8 Parts FAQ

How much memory can an ML310e Gen8 take?
32GB, as four 8GB Unbuffered ECC DIMMs at 1600MHz. The server has four slots arranged as two channels with two DIMMs per channel, and it supports Unbuffered ECC modules only.

How many drives does an ML310e Gen8 hold?
Four 3.5-inch LFF drives or eight 2.5-inch SFF drives, depending on the cage fitted. LFF bays were built in both hot-plug and non-hot-plug form; the SFF cage is hot-plug.

Does the ML310e Gen8 support SAS drives?
Not on the embedded controller. The Dynamic Smart Array B120i is SATA only, so SAS drives need a standup Smart Array card or an H-series host bus adapter in one of the PCIe slots.

What network ports does an ML310e Gen8 have?
Two RJ-45 Gigabit ports from an embedded HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 330i Adapter. One of the two is shared with iLO unless the dedicated iLO management port kit is fitted.

Is the ML310e Gen8 power supply redundant?
Not as standard. The pre-configured Entry models ship a single 350W Multi-Output supply that is neither hot-plug nor redundant. Redundancy means moving to Common Slot supplies, which need the 4U redundant power supply enablement kit.

Can an ML310e Gen8 be mounted in a rack?
It is a 4U micro ATX tower, and HPE documents rack mounting through the Tower to Rack Conversion Tray Universal Kit. A PDU power cord is also needed, because the tower ships with a wall-outlet NEMA cord.
