HPE ProLiant DL80 Gen9 Parts
The HPE ProLiant DL80 Gen9 is the 2U entry rack server of its generation, built on the Intel C610 chipset for capacity-intensive work such as cold storage and backup. It takes Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors across eight DDR4 slots and up to twelve large form factor bays, and the front cage and the processor count decide most of what you can buy for it. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.
DL80 Gen9 Platform at a Glance
- Processors: up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4, upgradeable to two processors and 28 cores; a v3 to v4 upgrade is supported, mixing different models is not
- Memory: 8 DDR4 slots — four per processor, four channels per processor, one DIMM per channel — to 256GB on eight 32GB Registered or Load Reduced modules; quad rank RDIMMs are not supported
- Drive bays: four factory front ends — 4LFF and 8LFF non-hot-plug in SATA, 8LFF and 12LFF hot-plug in SAS, SATA or solid state
- Maximum internal storage: 96.0TB on twelve 8TB hot-plug LFF drives, 46.08TB on twelve 3.84TB LFF SATA SSDs, or 32TB on eight 4TB non-hot-plug SATA drives
- Storage controller: embedded Dynamic Smart Array B140i on entry models — ten SATA drives at 6Gb/s, RAID 0, 1, 10 and 5 — while base models ship an H240 FIO Smart Host Bus Adapter
- Networking: HPE Embedded Dual Port 361i Adapter on the Intel I350 controller, two 1GbE RJ-45 ports
- Expansion: five low profile PCI Express 3.0 slots, three against processor 1 and two against processor 2, plus one optional riser — FlexibleLOM, full-height half-length or GPU
- Power and cooling: a 550W FIO supply at 80 Plus Silver, or a 900W AC 240VDC power input module at 80 Plus Gold on a redundant backplane, with two to six hot-swap fans
- Management: HPE iLO 4 with 2GB NAND, Intelligent Provisioning, UEFI by default with a Legacy BIOS option, a Micro SD slot and TPM 2.0
Two things decide most DL80 Gen9 orders: the front cage and the processor count. HPE built four front ends for this chassis, and only the 12LFF hot-plug cage reaches the documented 96.0TB. On the back, three of the five PCI Express slots answer to processor 1; the other two need a second processor fitted.

HPE built the DL80 only in this generation, so there is no earlier or later DL80 to cross-shop. Its closest relative is the 1U HPE ProLiant DL60 Gen9, which shares the eight-slot memory layout but stops at four bays; the other Gen9 entry platforms are the HPE ProLiant DL120 Gen9, the HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen9 and the storage-dense HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen9. Every model we stock is listed under HPE parts by server model.
DL80 Gen9 Parts FAQ
What processors does the DL80 Gen9 support?
Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors on the Intel C610 chipset, up to two of them for 28 cores. HPE supports a v3 to v4 upgrade but not mixing different processor models in one server.
How much memory can a DL80 Gen9 take?
256GB, on eight 32GB modules across eight DDR4 slots at one DIMM per channel. That figure is the same for Registered and for Load Reduced memory, and quad rank RDIMMs are not supported in this server.
How many drives does a DL80 Gen9 hold?
Up to twelve. HPE built four front ends for this chassis: 4LFF and 8LFF non-hot-plug in SATA, and 8LFF and 12LFF hot-plug taking SAS, SATA or solid state.
What is the maximum internal storage of a DL80 Gen9?
96.0TB on twelve 8TB hot-plug LFF drives with the 12LFF cage. LFF SATA solid state drives are documented to 46.08TB, and the non-hot-plug chassis to 32TB on eight 4TB drives.
Which storage controller does the DL80 Gen9 come with?
It depends on the model. Entry models use the embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i, documented here for up to ten SATA drives at 6Gb/s. Base models ship an H240 FIO Smart Host Bus Adapter instead.
How many PCIe slots does a DL80 Gen9 have?
Five low profile PCI Express 3.0 slots, but only three belong to processor 1. The second processor brings slots 6 and 7 into play, and one optional riser can be added on top.
