HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen11 Memory
The DL365 Gen11 has 24 DIMM slots, 12 per processor on 12 memory channels, and takes HPE DDR5 EC8 registered memory (RDIMMs). Which kit you need depends on the processor: 4th Gen AMD EPYC (9004 series) processors use DDR5-4800 kits; 5th Gen AMD EPYC (9005 series) processors use DDR5-6400 kits. The server supports up to 6TB with two processors and 256GB in every slot, within HPE's chassis and cooling limits for 256GB DIMMs.

Specifications match the HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen11 QuickSpecs. One DIMM per channel; LRDIMM, UDIMM, non-ECC and DDR4 are not supported.
How processor, kit and channels fit together
Each EPYC processor has 12 memory channels and one slot per channel, so there is no second-slot speed penalty: the kit runs at its rating on any processor rated for it. Bandwidth scales with the number of channels you populate, which is why 12 identical DIMMs per processor is the configuration AMD and HPE recommend.

The speed the server delivers is the lowest of the processor rating and the slowest installed DIMM.
Three rules that avoid a return
1 Match the kit to the processor
DDR5-6400 kits are listed for 5th Gen (9005) processors and DDR5-4800 kits for 4th Gen (9004). If you are adding to memory that is already installed, match the part number on the existing DIMM label.
2 Do not mix x4 and x8, or 3DS and non-3DS
HPE does not support mixing x4 and x8 DIMMs, or 3DS with non-3DS DIMMs, and 96GB and 128GB DIMMs cannot be mixed with any other memory. Keep every DIMM in a bank the same, and populate both processors identically.
3 Fill channels for bandwidth
With one slot per channel, every DIMM you add opens another channel. Twelve matching DIMMs per processor give the most bandwidth; the QuickSpecs give no count table (they point to HPE's population-rules paper), so the picker steps down through 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1. 128GB and 256GB DIMMs need the performance heatsink and seven performance fans.
DL365 Gen11 memory questions
How much memory does the HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen11 support?
Up to 6TB with two processors: 24 slots with 256GB DDR5 RDIMMs in every one, 3TB per processor. HPE limits 256GB DIMMs by chassis at a 25 °C inlet (24 in the SFF chassis, 16 EDSFF, 20 GPU), and to 12 when an InfiniBand NDR 200Gb or 400Gb adapter is installed, unless the server has the direct liquid cooling module. With a single processor only its 12 slots are usable.
What type of memory does the DL365 Gen11 use?
HPE DDR5 EC8 registered DIMMs (RDIMMs): DDR5-4800 kits with 4th Gen AMD EPYC 9004 processors and DDR5-6400 kits with 5th Gen EPYC 9005 processors, in 16GB to 256GB capacities.
How many DIMMs should I install?
Twelve per processor fills every channel and gives the most bandwidth. For capacity-only builds fewer per processor are supported (HPE's population guide lists the layouts); keep both processors identical.
What speed will the memory run at?
The kit rating: 6400 MT/s for DDR5-6400 kits on 9005 processors and 4800 MT/s for DDR5-4800 kits on 9004 processors, because every channel holds one DIMM.
