• Processor: one socket, and HPE supports only one processor — Intel Xeon 6300 series to twelve cores and 36MB of L3 cache, Intel Xeon E-2400 series to eight cores, or the two-core Intel Pentium G7400
• Memory: four DDR5 slots — two channels, two DIMMs per channel — taking ECC Unbuffered modules only, to a maximum of 128GB on four 32GB UDIMMs

Two things decide most ML30 Gen11 orders: the chassis and the memory type. HPE builds this tower three ways — four LFF non-hot-plug bays, four LFF hot-plug bays or eight SFF hot-plug bays — and the carrier that seats in one will not seat in another. On memory, the board takes ECC Unbuffered DDR5 only, so the Registered modules used across the rest of the Gen11 range are the wrong part here.

How many processors does an ML30 Gen11 take?
One. It is a single-socket server and HPE supports only one processor, so a processor change is a replacement rather than an addition. All four DIMM slots are already live with that single processor fitted.

How much memory can an ML30 Gen11 hold?
128GB, using four 32GB ECC Unbuffered DDR5 modules. The board has four slots arranged as two channels with two DIMMs per channel, and it takes ECC UDIMMs only - no RDIMMs, no LRDIMMs and no non-ECC modules.

How many drives fit in an ML30 Gen11?
Four or eight, depending on the chassis. HPE builds this server three ways: four LFF non-hot-plug bays, four LFF hot-plug bays, or eight SFF hot-plug bays. The front of the tower tells you which one you have.

Which RAID controller does the ML30 Gen11 use?
Embedded Intel VROC SATA hybrid RAID handles levels 0, 1, 5 and 10 on SATA drives. SAS drives need a plug-in card - the HPE MR216i-p, MR408i-p or MR416i-p Gen11 tri-mode controllers, or the Smart Array E208e-p for external storage.

Does the ML30 Gen11 have onboard network ports?
Yes. An embedded Broadcom BCM5719 Ethernet 1Gb 4-port BASE-T adapter gives four RJ-45 ports on every chassis type. Network port 1 is shared with iLO unless the optional iLO/NIC/M.2/COM Port Kit adds a dedicated management port.

Can an ML30 Gen11 be rack mounted?
It is a 4U tower by design. HPE lists the ML Gen10 Tower to Rack Conversion Kit with sliding rail rack shelf as an option, which takes up 1U of height and provides a shelf rather than a true rail-mounted conversion.
