The processor generation decides which memory kits are allowed. 2666 MT/s kits are supported with 1st generation Xeon Scalable processors (81xx, 61xx, 51xx) and 2933 MT/s kits with 2nd generation (82xx, 62xx, 52xx), with no crossover. Registered and Load Reduced cannot be mixed either, so read the model number on the CPU before ordering a single module.

Speed grade is a compatibility rule here, not a preference: a 2933 MT/s kit does not serve a machine running 1st generation silicon. Note the step inside the second column too — 64GB Registered modules hold 2933 MT/s only at one DIMM per channel, and filling the second slot brings the bank down to 2666 MT/s.
Choosing the Right DL580 Gen10 Memory
- Read the processor model number first. Its second digit is the generation: 81xx, 61xx and 51xx take 2666 MT/s kits, 82xx, 62xx and 52xx take 2933 MT/s.
- Registered and Load Reduced cannot be mixed. Moving between them means replacing every module, not topping up.
- Half the slots are a hardware purchase. 24 of the 48 sit on the CPU mezzanine board, so a two-processor machine cannot pass 24 modules.
- Above 1TB per socket takes an M or L processor. A 6TB fill is 1.5TB per socket, supported on 1st generation only with the M-suffix parts.
- Count in single DIMMs. Every option kit here is one module, so filling 24 slots means 24 kits, balanced across the installed processors.

Can I use 2933 MT/s memory in a DL580 Gen10?
Only with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the 82xx, 62xx and 52xx parts. A server running 1st generation 81xx, 61xx or 51xx processors takes 2666 MT/s kits instead.
Can I mix RDIMM and LRDIMM in a DL580 Gen10?
No. Registered and Load Reduced are distinct memory technologies and HPE does not support mixing them in one server. Whichever type is fitted today is what an upgrade has to match.
Does the DL580 Gen10 support Intel Optane persistent memory?
