HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen9 Power Supplies
Genuine HPE Common Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen9, new and refurbished. Two supply bays, and one rule that outranks wattage on a four-socket machine: the 1500W unit supports high line voltage only — 200 to 240 VAC — so it is not a drop-in replacement on a rack fed at 100 to 120 VAC.
DL560 Gen9 Power Supply Specifications
- Format: HPE Common Slot (CS) hot-plug supplies in two rear bays, a form factor shared across several ProLiant generations
- Outputs: 1200W and 1500W, in Platinum and Platinum Plus efficiency grades, rated up to 94% under the 80 PLUS Platinum programme
- Input voltage: 1200W units accept 100 to 120 VAC or 200 to 240 VAC; 1500W units accept 200 to 240 VAC only
- Rated input power: 1000W at 120 VAC and 1320W at 230 VAC for a 1200W supply, and 1652W at 230 VAC for a 1500W supply
- Factory fit: Entry models shipped a single 1200W Platinum supply; Base and Performance models shipped two 1200W Platinum Plus supplies as a redundant pair
- Mixing: not supported — every supply must match on input voltage, output rating and efficiency rating, or the server errors and operation fails
Check the rack feed before the wattage. The 1500W Common Slot supply runs on high line voltage only, 200 to 240 VAC, so on a 100 to 120 VAC circuit the 1200W units are the ceiling. Supplies must also match each other on input voltage, output and efficiency grade — a mismatched pair produces errors rather than derating.
Which supply does a four-socket configuration need?
| Output | Grade | Input | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1200W | Platinum | 100–120 or 200–240 VAC | The single supply shipped on Entry models |
| 1200W | Platinum Plus | 100–120 or 200–240 VAC | The redundant pair on Base and Performance models; Platinum Plus is what Intelligent Power Discovery requires |
| 1500W | Platinum Plus | 200–240 VAC only | Headroom for four processors, 48 DIMMs and 24 drives |
Four sockets is where a 1200W pair starts to look thin. Four 135W processors, 48 populated DIMM slots, 24 drives and a loaded secondary riser is a different power budget from any two-socket 2U, and the 1500W supply exists for that machine — but it buys nothing on a 120V feed, because it will not run there. Check the rack before the wattage, then size to the configuration you actually run rather than the chassis maximum; HPE publishes the Power Advisor for a specific build.
Choosing the Right DL560 Gen9 Power Supply
- Feed voltage decides whether 1500W is even an option. On a 100 to 120 VAC circuit the 1200W units are the ceiling, whatever the configuration asks for.
- Read the label on the installed supply. Matching input voltage, output rating and efficiency grade is a requirement, so the unit already fitted is the specification for the second.
- Platinum and Platinum Plus do not mix. Two 1200W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum and the other Platinum Plus, and a mismatched pair produces errors rather than derating.
- Redundancy is two identical supplies. A single supply in a two-bay chassis is not redundant at any wattage, and Entry models shipped that way.
- Option kits include a PDU cable. Each Common Slot option kit contains the supply and an IEC jumper cord, so a separate cord is only needed where the rack feed differs.

DL560 Gen9 Power Supplies FAQ
Can I mix power supplies in a DL560 Gen9?
No. HPE states that all supplies in one server must match on input voltage, output rating and efficiency rating. A mismatched pair produces errors and failed operation rather than running at the lower rating.
Will the 1500W power supply work on a 120V circuit?
No. The 1500W Common Slot supply supports high line voltage only, 200 to 240 VAC. On a 100 to 120 VAC feed the 1200W units are the only option for this server.
What wattage does a DL560 Gen9 need?
It depends on the build. Entry models shipped a single 1200W supply and Base and Performance models a redundant pair; the 1500W option is there for a fully populated four-processor machine.
What is the difference between Platinum and Platinum Plus?
They are efficiency grades within the Common Slot family, both rated up to 94%. Platinum Plus is the grade required to enable HPE Intelligent Power Discovery, and the two grades cannot be mixed in one chassis.
How many power supply bays does a DL560 Gen9 have?
Two, both hot-plug, at the rear. Two matching supplies give a redundant configuration and either can be replaced while the server runs.
Does a power supply kit include a power cord?
The Common Slot option kits contain the supply and a PDU IEC jumper cable. A different cord is only needed where the rack feed is not a standard PDU outlet.
