Slot budget is the real constraint here. Four PCIe slots come standard — a full-length x4 PCIe 3.0, two half-length x8 PCIe 3.0 and a low-profile x4 PCIe 2.0 — and slot 3 is not available when the riser with SAS is fitted. The optional secondary riser adds slots 5 and 6 but needs the second processor, and a rear drive cage takes its space.
Choosing the Right DL380e Gen8 Network Adapter
- Start from what the LOM gives you. Four 1GbE ports come standard, so a second 1GbE card is usually about port separation rather than throughput.
- Match media to your fabric. BASE-T parts run on existing copper; SFP+ and QSFP parts need direct attach cables or transceivers, purchased separately.
- Budget memory for 10GbE: a minimum of 2GB of server memory per 10 Gigabit adapter, which matters on a one-processor build where six DIMM slots are live.
- Check the slot before the card. Slot 4 is low profile, so a full-height adapter takes one of the other three, and slot 1 is the only full-length one there.
- Mixing vendors is fine: the Broadcom, Intel, Emulex, QLogic and Mellanox based adapters here are all HPE-qualified.

Yes, four. HPE ships the Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 366i Adapter as standard on every model, and the interfaces table lists 4 x 1GbE LOM network ports. The 1Gb dedicated iLO remote management network port is separate from production networking.
Does the DL380e Gen8 take FlexibleLOM adapters?
No. Unlike the DL380p Gen8 and other Gen8 platforms, this server's networking is a fixed quad-port 366i LOM plus PCIe stand-up cards. The QuickSpecs list no FlexibleLOM slot and no FLR adapters for the DL380e Gen8.
Can I add 10GbE to a DL380e Gen8?
Yes, on a PCIe card. HPE lists the NC523SFP, Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 530SFP, 560SFP+ and NC552SFP in SFP+, and the 530T and 561T in RJ-45 BASE-T. A minimum of two gigabytes of server memory is required per 10 Gigabit adapter.
Do DL380e Gen8 10GbE adapters include cables or transceivers?
No. HPE states that direct attach cables for copper environments, or fiber transceivers and cables for fiber-optic environments, must be purchased separately. BASE-T adapters such as the 530T and 561T connect with standard copper patch cables.
How many PCIe slots does the DL380e Gen8 have for network cards?
