- Format: HPE Common Slot (CS) hot-plug supplies, the shared form factor used across several ProLiant generations
- Efficiency: rated up to 94%, in Platinum and Gold efficiency grades
- Outputs stocked: 460W, 750W and 1200W, so the supply can be sized to the configuration rather than over-specified
- DC option: a 1200W Common Slot −48VDC unit for racks fed by DC rectifiers, supplied with a −48V DC cord
- Redundancy: optional 1+1 or N+N redundant configurations through power supply option kits
- Mixing: not supported — all supplies in one server must share the same output and efficiency rating
- Cooling: fully redundant hot-plug fans ship as standard in an N+1 arrangement, four on single-processor models and six on dual-processor models
Mixing power supplies is not supported. HPE requires every supply in one server to share the same output and the same efficiency rating — two 750W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum and the other Gold. Read the label on the installed unit before ordering the second.

Oversizing costs efficiency as well as money: a supply running far below its rated load sits away from its best efficiency point. HPE publishes a Power Advisor for sizing a specific configuration, and for a server of this age the honest shortcut is to match what is already fitted unless the machine has gained processors or drives since.
Choosing the Right DL380 G7 Power Supply
- Read the label on the installed unit first. Matching output and efficiency grade is a requirement, not a preference, so the existing supply is the specification.
- Platinum and Gold do not mix. Two 750W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum and the other Gold.
- Redundancy needs two matching units. A 1+1 configuration is two identical supplies; a single supply in a two-bay chassis is not redundant, whatever its rating.
- −48VDC is a different world. The DC unit belongs in racks fed by DC rectifiers and ships with a DC cord; it is not an alternative to an AC supply on a standard rack feed.

What is the minus 48VDC power supply for?
Racks fed by DC power rectifiers rather than an AC supply, as found in some telecommunications environments. It ships with a minus 48V DC cord and is not interchangeable with the AC units.
