HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 Processors
Genuine HPE-qualified Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 processor kits for the HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8, new and refurbished. The "p" is the performance line: two sockets of E5-2600 v2 or E5-2600 on the Intel C600 chipset, four memory channels each, where the entry-level DL360e Gen8 runs the Intel Xeon E5-2400 family.
DL360p Gen8 Processor Specifications
- Sockets: two, fitted with HPE Smart Socket Guides — upgradeable to two processors and 24 cores, and mixing different processor models is not supported
- Option kits listed: the E5-2600 v2 series in Entry, Base and Performance groups, from the 4-core E5-2603 v2 to the 12-core E5-2697 v2
- Range: 4 to 12 cores, 10MB to 30MB of L3 cache, 60W to 130W TDP, QPI from 6.4 to 8.0 GT/s — memory speed is a function of QPI bus speed
- Memory speed by tier: Entry kits support up to 1333MHz, Base kits up to 1600MHz and Performance kits up to 1866MHz DDR3
- E5-2600 support: the platform also runs the first-generation E5-2600, rated 1600MHz and below, with a documented upgrade path to E5-2600 v2
Processors go in as a matched pair. The DL360p Gen8 takes up to two CPUs for a maximum of 24 cores, and HPE states mixing different processor models is not supported. Buy the -B21 option kit, not a -L21 code: those are factory-integration only. The second processor adds 12 DIMM slots and two fan modules, but no PCIe slots — both are already activated by processor 1.
Which processors does the DL360p Gen8 support?
| Group | Processor models | Cores | TDP | Rated memory speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Performance E5-2600 v2 | E5-2697 v2, E5-2695 v2, E5-2690 v2, E5-2680 v2, E5-2670 v2, E5-2667 v2, E5-2660 v2, E5-2650 v2, E5-2643 v2, E5-2637 v2 | 4 to 12 | 95W to 130W | 1866MHz |
| Base E5-2600 v2 | E5-2640 v2, E5-2630 v2, E5-2620 v2, E5-2650L v2, E5-2630L v2 | 6 to 10 | 60W to 95W | 1600MHz |
| Entry E5-2600 v2 | E5-2609 v2, E5-2603 v2 | 4 | 80W | 1333MHz |
| E5-2600 series | E5-2690 through E5-2603 | 2 to 8 | 60W to 135W | 1600MHz and below |
The option list in this QuickSpecs is entirely E5-2600 v2: the first-generation parts appear in Standard Features and the factory-integration step, not as orderable kits. Watch the suffix — a -B21 kit is the orderable option, while -L21 codes are factory-integration only and are not sold as field upgrades.
Choosing the Right DL360p Gen8 Processor
- Both sockets must match. Mixing different processor models is not supported, so a second CPU means the identical model, not the nearest available one.
- Pick the tier for the memory speed you want. DDR3-1866 needs a Performance kit; Base kits cap the 24 DIMM slots at 1600MHz and Entry kits at 1333MHz.
- Cores or clock, not both. The 12-core E5-2697 v2 runs 2.7GHz at 130W, while the 4-core E5-2637 v2 and 6-core E5-2643 v2 hit 3.5GHz at the same 130W.
- The second processor does not add slots. It adds 12 DIMM slots and two fan modules; both PCIe 3.0 slots are already live on processor 1.

The processor gates the build: start with DL360p Gen8 memory, then drives, storage controllers, networking adapters and power supplies, or the full DL360p Gen8 parts page. Neighbors: DL360e Gen8 processors and DL360 Gen9 processors. Catalog-wide: HPE parts by server model.
DL360p Gen8 Processors FAQ
What processors does the HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 support?
Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 and E5-2600 series processors on the Intel C600 chipset, in up to two sockets. The orderable kits in this QuickSpecs are all E5-2600 v2, running from the 4-core E5-2603 v2 to the 12-core E5-2697 v2.
What is the maximum core count of the DL360p Gen8?
Twenty-four cores, from two 12-core E5-2697 v2 or E5-2695 v2 processors. HPE lists the platform as upgradeable to two processors and 24 cores; with first-generation E5-2600 parts the ceiling is 16 cores.
What is the difference between the DL360p Gen8 and the DL360e Gen8?
Processor family and platform. The DL360p is the performance line on Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 and E5-2600 with the Intel C600 chipset, 24 DIMM slots and four memory channels per processor. The DL360e is the entry line on the Intel Xeon E5-2400 family. CPUs are not interchangeable between them.
Can I mix processor models in a DL360p Gen8?
No. The QuickSpecs state that up to 2 processors are supported and that mixing different processor models is not supported, so both sockets must carry the identical part.
What is the difference between a -B21 and a -L21 processor kit?
A -B21 kit is the orderable option kit you can buy and fit in the field. A -L21 code is a factory-integration option, available only when the server is built to order, so it is not stocked as an upgrade.
Does adding a second processor unlock anything else on a DL360p Gen8?
It unlocks 12 more DIMM slots and adds two fan modules, which are included in the processor option kit. It does not add PCIe slots: both the x16 full-height half-length and the x8 low profile slot are activated by processor 1.
