HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8 Processors

Genuine HPE-qualified Intel Xeon E5-2400 v2 and E5-2400 processor kits for the HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8, new and refurbished. This is the entry-level branch of the 1U Gen8 line — two sockets, up to 20 cores — and every processor kit HPE lists for it is branded DL360e Gen8, never DL360p.

DL360e Gen8 Processor Specifications

  • Sockets: two, with HPE Smart Socket Guides — mixing processor models is not supported
  • E5-2400 v2 family: the 4-core E5-2403 v2 at 1.8GHz to the 10-core E5-2470 v2 at 2.4GHz, 10MB to 25MB of L3 cache, 60W to 95W
  • E5-2400 family: the 4-core E5-2403 at 1.8GHz to the 8-core E5-2470 at 2.3GHz, 10MB to 20MB of L3 cache, 60W to 95W
  • Maximum cores: 20, from two 10-core E5-2470 v2 or E5-2450L v2 parts; the E5-2400 series stops at 8 cores per socket
  • Chipset: Intel C600 Series, E5-2400 and E5-2400 v2 families, QPI 6.4 to 8.0 GT/s
  • Not interchangeable with the DL360p Gen8: that platform is the E5-2600 branch of the same C600 series, 24 DIMM slots on four channels per processor against 12 on three here

Processors go in as a matched pair, and only E5-2400 parts fit. HPE states that mixing different processor models is not supported, so a second CPU must match the first exactly. This is the E5-2400 and E5-2400 v2 platform — 20 cores at most, from two 10-core E5-2470 v2 or E5-2450L v2 parts — and E5-2600 processors from a DL360p Gen8 do not fit it.

Which processors does the DL360e Gen8 support?

The v2 generation is where this platform gains its ceiling: 10 cores per socket against 8, and 1600MHz memory reaching the six-core parts rather than stopping at the two fastest E5-2400 models. HPE documents an upgrade from E5-2400 to E5-2400 v2 and points to a Customer Advisory to read first.

Choosing the Right DL360e Gen8 Processor

  • Buy a matched pair. Mixing processor models is not supported, so a second CPU must match the one already fitted exactly.
  • The second processor unlocks the board. DIMMs 7 through 12 only come alive with it installed, and HPE notes the -B21 kits include the fans that take a four-fan 1P server to eight-fan 2P.
  • Read the memory column first. HPE rates E5-2407, E5-2403 and E5-2430L at 1066MHz, so faster DIMM kits simply clock down.
  • Cores or clock, not both. The 10-core E5-2470 v2 runs 2.4GHz at 95W; the E5-2450L v2 keeps the core count at 1.7GHz and 60W.
  • Do not cross-shop with the DL360p Gen8. That chassis takes E5-2600 processors; nothing on this page fits it, and nothing on its page fits a DL360e Gen8.

DL360e Gen8 Processors FAQ

What processors does the HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8 support?
Intel Xeon E5-2400 v2 and E5-2400 series processors on the Intel C600 Series chipset, in up to two sockets. The v2 list runs from the 4-core E5-2403 v2 to the 10-core E5-2470 v2; the E5-2400 list from the 4-core E5-2403 to the 8-core E5-2470.

Can a DL360e Gen8 use E5-2600 processors from a DL360p Gen8?
No. The DL360e Gen8 is the E5-2400 branch of the Intel C600 series and HPE lists only E5-2400 and E5-2400 v2 kits for it, each branded DL360e Gen8. The DL360p Gen8 is the E5-2600 branch with 24 DIMM slots on four channels per processor.

What is the maximum core count of the DL360e Gen8?
Twenty. HPE describes the server as upgradeable to two processors and 20 cores, meaning two 10-core parts: the E5-2470 v2 at 2.4GHz and 95W, or the E5-2450L v2 at 1.7GHz and 60W. With the earlier E5-2400 series the maximum is 16 cores.

Can I mix processor models in a DL360e Gen8?
No. The QuickSpecs state that mixing different processor models is not supported. Both sockets must carry the same model, so a processor upgrade is a matched pair rather than a single spare CPU.

Can I upgrade a DL360e Gen8 from E5-2400 to E5-2400 v2 processors?
HPE documents a processor upgrade from Intel Xeon E5-2400 to E5-2400 v2 and points to a Customer Advisory covering requirements and limitations to review before starting. Both sockets must end up on the same model, so plan it as a pair.

Does the second processor change what the DL360e Gen8 can do?
Yes, in two ways. DIMM slots 7 through 12 only become available once a second processor is installed, and HPE notes the -B21 processor option kits include the four additional fans that take the server from four fans to the eight-fan 2P configuration.
