HPE ProLiant DL340e Gen12 Power Supplies

HPE ProLiant DL340e Gen12 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE M-CRPS power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL340e Gen12, new and refurbished. The platform uses the Modular Common Redundant Power Supply (M-CRPS) design HPE lists among this server's new features, in one or two hot-plug bays, and HPE's one hard rule is that the two supplies must be the same model.

DL340e Gen12 Power Supply Specifications

  • Form factor: M-CRPS hot-plug; bay M-CRPS 1 is standard, M-CRPS 2 is optional and gives redundancy
  • AC units listed: 800W Platinum; 1000W, 1500W, 2400W and 3200W Titanium — HPE rates the Titanium units at 96% efficiency, meeting EU ErP Lot 9
  • DC units listed: 1300W and 2200W -48VDC hot-plug kits
  • Input: 100 to 120 VAC low line, 200 to 240 VAC high line, 240 VDC for China
  • Low-line derating: 3200W to 1600W and 2400W to 1200W at 100 to 127 VAC; 1500W to 1000W at 100 VAC and 1100W at 110 to 120 VAC; 1000W to 800W at 100 to 120 VAC
  • Heat: 3200W unit 5142 BTU/hr at 100 VAC and 11699 at 240 VAC; 1000W unit 3044 at 100 VAC and 3680 at 200 VAC
  • Cooling: six performance fans are included with the CTO server

Two supplies, one model. HPE states that mixing of power supplies is not allowed in the DL340e Gen12, so the second M-CRPS unit must match the first in wattage and type — and on 100 to 127 VAC the 3200W and 2400W Titanium units deliver only 1600W and 1200W, so size the redundant pair on the line voltage the rack actually has.

Which DL340e Gen12 power supply do you need?

UnitOutput at 200 to 240 VACOutput at 100 to 120 VACHPE's sized example
800W M-CRPS Platinum800WNot specifiedEntry: 6511P, 12 LFF HDDs, 4 DIMMs, no E3.S (2 × 800W)
1000W M-CRPS Titanium1000W800WTypical: 6521P, 18 LFF HDDs, 4 E3.S SSDs, 8 DIMMs, two MR416i-p (2 × 1000W)
1500W M-CRPS Titanium1500W1000W to 1100W—
2400W M-CRPS Titanium2400W1200WPerformance: 6731P, 16 LFF HDDs, 8 E3.S SSDs, 16 DIMMs, NVIDIA L4 (2 × 2400W)
3200W M-CRPS Titanium3200W1600W—

Two things stand out. Low-line power halves the big units — a 3200W supply on 120V is a 1600W supply — so anything above the entry build belongs on 200 to 240 VAC. And HPE's own acoustic test configurations, the only sized examples in the document, run 2 × 800W for a 12-drive entry build, 2 × 1000W for 18 hard drives plus four NVMe SSDs and two cached controllers, and 2 × 2400W once a GPU and 16 DIMMs are added.

Choosing the Right DL340e Gen12 Power Supply

  • Never mix models. HPE states that mixing of power supplies is not allowed; a second supply must be the same wattage and type as the first.
  • Size on high line where you can. The 2400W and 3200W units give their full rating only at 200 to 240 VAC or 240 VDC; on 100 to 127 VAC they deliver 1200W and 1600W.
  • Count the drives. 24 LFF spindles, eight E3.S NVMe drives and two MR controllers is the heaviest configuration HPE describes; HPE recommends running the HPE Power Advisor for the exact figure.
  • -48VDC is a separate line. The 1300W and 2200W DC kits are listed alongside the AC units and the no-mixing rule applies to them just the same.
  • Efficiency is regulatory as well as thermal. The four Titanium units (P67240-B21, P67244-B21, P67248-B21, P67252-B21) are the 96% single-output supplies HPE cites for EU Lot 9 compliance; the 800W unit is Platinum.

DL340e Gen12 Power Supplies FAQ

What power supply does the DL340e Gen12 use?
HPE M-CRPS hot-plug units: 800W Platinum, 1000W, 1500W, 2400W and 3200W Titanium, and 1300W and 2200W -48VDC kits. The server has two M-CRPS bays; the first is standard and the second is optional.

Can I mix a 1000W and a 1500W power supply in a DL340e Gen12?
No. HPE states that mixing of power supplies is not allowed. A second unit must be the same wattage and type as the one already fitted.

Is one power supply enough for a DL340e Gen12?
The server runs on one; bay M-CRPS 1 is standard and M-CRPS 2 is optional. Two matching supplies give redundancy, which is how all three of HPE's documented example configurations are built.

Does the DL340e Gen12 run on 120V?
Yes, on 100 to 120 VAC low line, with reduced output: the 3200W unit delivers 1600W, the 2400W unit 1200W, the 1500W unit 1000W at 100 VAC or 1100W at 110 to 120 VAC, and the 1000W unit 800W. Full rating needs 200 to 240 VAC.

Which DL340e Gen12 power supplies are 96% efficient?
The four Titanium units - 1000W (P67240-B21), 1500W (P67244-B21), 3200W (P67248-B21) and 2400W (P67252-B21). HPE cites them as the single-output supplies meeting the EU ErP Lot 9 96% requirement. The 800W unit is Platinum rated.

Is there a DC power option for the DL340e Gen12?
Yes. HPE lists 1300W and 2200W M-CRPS -48VDC hot-plug power supply kits for this server. They follow the same no-mixing rule as the AC units.
