HPE ProLiant DL340e Gen12 Parts
The HPE ProLiant DL340e Gen12 — HPE's full name is ProLiant Compute DL340e Gen12 — is a 2U single-socket storage-optimised server: one CTO chassis taking up to 24 LFF drives in front, an optional rear E3.S EDSFF SSD cage or six-slot PCIe rear, one Intel Xeon 6 processor and 16 DDR5 DIMM slots. HPE positions it as the next generation of its Alletra Storage Server 4000 family, built for software-defined storage. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.
DL340e Gen12 Platform at a Glance
- Form factor: 2U rack, 8.75 × 44.80 × 80.65 cm; 22.93 kg minimum, 46.55 kg with 24 LFF and 8 E3.S drives, 16 DIMMs and two MR controllers
- Processor: one Intel Xeon 6 — Efficient-core kits to 144 cores, Performance-core kits to 86 cores, Mainline kits, and the Single Socket Rich I/O series with 136 PCIe lanes
- Memory: 16 DDR5 DIMM slots, 8 channels at 2 DIMMs per channel, HPE Smart Memory RDIMM to 2TB; 6400 MT/s at 1 DPC, 5200 MT/s at 2 DPC
- Front drives: 24 LFF or 16 LFF hot-plug SAS/SATA bays, fixed at order by a factory-installed cage kit; no drives ship as standard
- Rear options: one of two enablement kits — six PCIe 5.0 FHHL slots, or an EDSFF cage with up to ten E3.S 1T bays plus four PCIe slots
- Storage controllers: HPE MR216i-p Gen11 (no cache) or MR416i-p Gen11 (8GB cache), each for up to 16 SAS/SATA/NVMe drives, or Intel VROC software RAID for NVMe
- Networking: none embedded — an OCP 3.0 slot (OCP A, PCIe 5.0 x16) plus PCIe stand-up adapters; a second OCP slot only with a Rich I/O processor and the six-slot rear
- Boot: optional HPE NS204i-u v2 480GB or 960GB NVMe boot device with RAID 1 preconfigured
- Power and cooling: one or two hot-plug M-CRPS supplies, 800W Platinum through 3200W Titanium plus -48VDC units; six performance fans included
- Management: HPE iLO 7 on the DC-SCM module with a dedicated 1GbE port, front USB-C iLO service port, embedded TPM 2.0, UEFI Class 3
This is a storage chassis first, and it ships empty. The DL340e Gen12 carries up to 24 LFF drives in front with none fitted as standard, has no embedded network ports, and its front cage kit is factory-installed at order — so what you add is drives, one or two MR controllers, memory, a NIC in the OCP A slot and, for NVMe, the rear E3.S cage kit.

DL340e Gen12 Parts FAQ
Is the DL340e Gen12 the same server as the DL340 Gen12?
No. The DL340e Gen12 is HPE's 2U single-socket storage-optimised chassis - up to 24 LFF front bays with an optional rear E3.S cage - and its front cage kits, rear enablement kits and E3.S cable kits all carry the DL340e Gen12 name in HPE's part list. Check the model on the chassis label before ordering a cage, backplane or cable kit.
How many drives does the DL340e Gen12 hold?
Up to 24 LFF SAS or SATA drives in the front (or 16 with the 16LFF cage), plus up to ten E3.S NVMe SSDs in the rear when the Rear EDSFF 4x PCIe Enablement Kit is fitted - eight general bays and two dedicated boot bays. The NS204i-u v2 boot device is separate again.
How much memory does the DL340e Gen12 support?
2TB, as sixteen 128GB DDR5 RDIMMs across 16 slots on 8 channels. HPE states every listed processor supports the full 2TB. Speed is 6400 MT/s with one DIMM per channel and 5200 MT/s with two, so the 2TB configuration runs at 5200.
Does the DL340e Gen12 have built-in networking?
No. HPE lists no default network controller; you choose an OCP 3.0 adapter for the embedded OCP A slot (PCIe 5.0 x16) or a PCIe stand-up card. A second OCP slot, OCP B, exists only with a Rich I/O processor and the Rear 6x PCIe Enablement Kit.
Which processors does the DL340e Gen12 take?
One Intel Xeon 6 processor: Efficient-core kits from the 64-core 6710E to the 144-core 6766E and 6780E, Performance-core kits from the 8-core 6507P to the 86-core 6787P, Mainline kits from the 6505P to the 6760P, and the Single Socket Rich I/O series from the 6511P to the 6781P.
Can I add PCIe cards or a GPU to the DL340e Gen12?
Yes. The Rear 6x PCIe Enablement Kit gives six PCIe 5.0 FHHL slots (slot 5 needs a Rich I/O processor); the Rear EDSFF kit gives four. HPE lists the NVIDIA L4 24GB and RTX A1000 8GB PCIe accelerators for this server, and its own performance test configuration carries one L4.
