HPE ProLiant BL660c Gen8 Memory
Genuine HPE SmartMemory DDR3 for the HPE ProLiant BL660c Gen8, new and refurbished. This is the four-socket blade, so it carries 32 DIMM slots — eight per processor, four channels at two DIMMs per channel — and because a slot is only available when its own socket has a processor in it, a two-processor blade can address just sixteen of them.

Registered DIMMs reach 512GB and Load Reduced reach 1.0TB, and the two technologies cannot be mixed — moving between them means replacing every module in the blade.

Capacity is the reason this blade exists, and the load reduced route doubles the registered ceiling. What it costs is clock: the stocked 32GB LRDIMM is a PC3L-10600 part at 1333MHz, where the 16GB registered module runs at 1600MHz. HPE also documents a 768GB registered configuration, but it needs 24GB modules in every slot of every populated socket, and those kits are not stocked here.
Choosing the Right BL660c Gen8 Memory
- Check which technology is fitted before ordering a single kit. Registered and Load Reduced cannot be mixed, so a wrong module means the blade will not post rather than simply running slower.
- Memory from earlier generations will not do. HPE states that memory from previous generation servers is not qualified or warranted with this blade, and SmartMemory is required to realise the speeds documented for it.
- The processor sets the speed ceiling. E5-4650, E5-4650L and E5-4640 blades support 1600, 1333 and 1066MHz; E5-4620 and E5-4610 support 1333 and 1066MHz; an E5-4603 holds the whole bank at 1066MHz whatever is in the slots.
- Balance the sockets. DIMM sizes can be mixed within a channel, but HPE recommends balancing total capacity across every installed processor and loading the channels similarly.
- Every HPE DDR3 kit here is a single DIMM. Filling a four-processor blade is thirty-two kits, not one boxed set.
