The processor generation picks the module, and the choice is permanent. Both families reach the same 8.0TB ceiling, so this is a compatibility question rather than a capacity one — and it is settled once. HPE does not support a field upgrade from a 4th Generation processor to a 5th, so the speed grade fitted today is the one the server keeps.
Choosing the Right ML350 Gen11 Memory
- Populate in supported quantities. Per socket the count must be 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 — a bank of ten is not an arrangement HPE documents.
- Never mix x4 and x8 modules. The rule appears on both speed grades, and breaking it turns a sound-looking upgrade into a server that will not train its memory.
- 96GB modules carry extra rules. Supported only at 8 or 16 DIMMs per processor, for totals of 8, 16 or 32, and never mixed with other capacities.
- 256GB modules need cooling headroom. HPE limits them to a 25°C maximum inlet temperature without the Redundant Fan Kit, and 30°C with it.
- Order the -B21 kit, not the -F21. The -B21 SKUs are stand-alone memory; -F21 exists only for DIMMs integrated at the factory.
