HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 Memory
The DL360p Gen8 has 24 DIMM slots, 12 per processor, and takes HPE DDR3 memory. Which kit you need depends on the processor: E5-2600 v2 processors use the DDR3-1866 and DDR3-1600 kits listed for v2; first-generation E5-2600 processors use the DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1333 kits listed for v1. The server supports up to 768GB with two processors and 32GB LRDIMMs in every slot.

How processor, population and speed fit together
Each processor has 4 memory channels with 3 slots per channel. One or two DIMMs per channel run at the kit rating, as far as the processor allows; the third slot in each channel adds capacity at a lower speed.

Kits marked PC3L are low-voltage DIMMs. HPE SmartMemory is required for the performance features HPE lists for Gen8. HPE's QuickSpecs give population guidance only (one DIMM minimum, balance the processors); the picker uses 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 DIMMs per processor.
Three rules that avoid a return
1 Match the kit to the processor
Buy from the section HPE lists for your processor: the v2 kits for E5-2600 v2, the v1 kits for first-generation E5-2600. If memory is already installed, match the part number on the existing DIMM label.
2 RDIMM, UDIMM or LRDIMM, never mixed
HPE: load-reduced, registered and unbuffered DIMMs are distinct technologies and cannot be mixed within a server. Registered DIMMs are the usual choice; LRDIMMs reach the 32GB-per-slot maximum.
3 Fill channels for bandwidth
Four matching DIMMs per processor fill every channel once. Eight per processor doubles capacity at the same speed; twelve per processor reaches the maximum at 1333 MT/s or lower. Populate both processors identically.
DL360p Gen8 memory questions
How much memory does the HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 support?
Up to 768GB with two processors and 32GB DDR3 LRDIMMs in all 24 slots. With registered DIMMs the maximum is 384GB (16GB in every slot). A single processor can use only its 12 slots.
What type of memory does the DL360p Gen8 use?
HPE DDR3 memory: registered DIMMs from 4GB to 16GB, unbuffered ECC DIMMs from 2GB to 8GB and 32GB load-reduced DIMMs. E5-2600 v2 processors take the DDR3-1866 and DDR3-1600 kits listed for v2; first-generation E5-2600 processors take the DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1333 kits listed for v1.
Can I use memory from a Gen7 or Gen9 server?
No. HPE states that memory from previous generations is not qualified or warranted in Gen8 servers, and Gen9 uses DDR4. Buy the kits listed on this page.
What does PC3L mean?
Low-voltage (1.35V) DDR3. PC3L kits run cooler and are the kits HPE lists for most Gen8 configurations. HPE: DIMMs of either voltage may be mixed in any order, and the system then powers them all at the higher voltage.
