HPE ProLiant ML350p Gen8 Processors
Genuine HPE processor option kits for the HPE ProLiant ML350p Gen8, new and refurbished. The server takes up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 or E5-2600 v2 processors for 4 to 24 cores in total, and HPE does not support mixing different processor models — so a second CPU has to match the first exactly.
ML350p Gen8 Processor Specifications

A second processor does far more than add cores. With one CPU installed, only 12 of the 24 DIMM slots are available and only expansion slots 1 to 4 work; the second opens the rest of both. It must be the same model as the first, and moving a server from E5-2600 to E5-2600 v2 also calls for the Processor Upgrade Lever Kit 749245-B21.

The processor, not the module, decides how fast memory runs here, and the gap is wide: an entry E5-2603 v2 holds DDR3 to 1333MHz whatever is in the slots, while an E5-2697 v2 allows 1866MHz. Wattage is the other axis a tower buyer feels — two 130W parts ask more of the fans and the supply than two 60W E5-2630L v2 kits, and in a floor-standing machine that is audible.
Choosing the Right ML350p Gen8 Processor
- Both sockets must carry the same model. Mixing processor models is not supported, so going to two CPUs means two identical kits unless the first is replaced as well.
- A second processor opens more than cores. It brings the other 12 DIMM slots into use and activates expansion slots 5 to 9, which is often the real reason to fit one.
- Going from E5-2600 to E5-2600 v2 needs the lever kit. HPE documents the Processor Upgrade Lever Kit 749245-B21 for that move, with a customer advisory setting out the limitations.
- Match the memory you already own. Dropping an entry v2 part into a server full of 1866MHz DIMMs throws away the speed you paid for.
- Check the power and cooling budget. Two 130W processors with three drive cages is a different proposition from two 60W parts, for the supply and the fans alike.
