  • Memory: 32 DDR5 DIMM slots, 16 per processor, one DIMM per channel, RDIMM and MRDIMM; HPE states a maximum of 8.0 TB of RDIMM at 8000 MT/s and 4.0 TB of MRDIMM at 12800 MT/s
  • Drive bays: 8 EDSFF E3.S NVMe bays as shipped, 16 with the 16EDSFF upgrade kit; E3.S NVMe SSDs only, plus the NS204mff hot-plug boot device at the front
  • Storage controller: the HPE MR932i-p x32-lane PCIe Gen5 tri-mode controller, up to two, on the controller topologies; direct-attach NVMe on the others
  • Networking: no embedded ports — one rear OCP 3.0 slot and PCIe 6.0 x16 stand-up slots for Ethernet, InfiniBand, DPU and Fibre Channel adapters
  • Expansion: up to eight PCIe 6.0 x16 expansion slots across four front full-height slots, two front 3/4-length slots and up to two rear half-length slots, set by the configuration topology
  • Power and cooling: a dual power domain, fully N+N redundant — up to two 3200W M-CRPS supplies for the system and up to twelve for the GPUs, 200 to 240 VAC; 15 hot-plug dual-rotor fan assemblies
  • Management: HPE iLO 8 with a dedicated 1Gb rear port and a front USB Type-C service port, UEFI Class 3, embedded TPM 2.0

This is a two-processor GPU server, and it is only ever a two-processor server. HPE supports the DL585a Gen13 in dual processor configurations only, so the processors, the 32 DIMM slots and the PCIe 6.0 lanes are always bought and planned as a pair. The GPU side is its own system: up to eight double-wide accelerators on the HPE switchboard, fed by a separate power domain of up to twelve 3200W supplies. Decide the GPU count first; the processors, memory and power supplies follow from it.

Specifications on this page are taken from the HPE QuickSpecs for this server, HPE ProLiant DL585a Gen13 Server QuickSpecs, Version 1.

DL585a Gen13 Parts FAQ

What is the HPE ProLiant DL585a Gen13?
A 10U two-processor AI server: two 6th Gen AMD EPYC 9006 SP7 processors, 32 DDR5 DIMM slots, up to eight double-wide PCIe GPUs on an HPE switchboard, up to 16 EDSFF E3.S NVMe bays, PCIe 6.0 and iLO 8. HPE positions it for AI inference, agentic AI, RAG, fine-tuning, analytics and visualization.

How many GPUs does the DL585a Gen13 hold?
Up to eight double-wide PCIe GPUs, in 0, 1, 2, 4 or 8 GPU configurations with no mixing of GPU models. HPE lists the NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition 96GB and the RTX PRO 6000D 84GB. Full-height full-length GPUs need the FHFL GPU switchboard cage kit, and a field upgrade needs one GPU power cable kit for up to eight GPUs.

How much memory does the DL585a Gen13 support?
HPE states 8.0 TB as 32 x 256 GB RDIMM at 8000 MT/s, and 4.0 TB as 32 x 128 GB MRDIMM at 12800 MT/s. There are 32 slots, 16 per processor on 16 channels, one DIMM per channel. HPE recommends system memory of at least twice the total GPU memory for best performance across common workloads.

How many drives does a DL585a Gen13 hold?
Eight EDSFF E3.S NVMe bays as shipped, and 16 with the HPE ProLiant DL585a Gen13 16EDSFF Upgrade Kit on the two-controller topology. HPE quotes the maximum internal storage as 491.5 TB, as 16 x 30.72 TB, plus 960 GB of hot-plug boot storage as 2 x 960 GB. Only E3.S NVMe SSDs are supported.

Does the DL585a Gen13 run on a single processor?
No. HPE states the DL585a Gen13 supports dual processor configurations only, and that mixing two different processor models is not supported. Every processor kit on the processors page is bought as a matched pair.

How much power does a DL585a Gen13 need?
It has two power domains, each fully N+N redundant: up to two 3200W M-CRPS supplies for the system and up to twelve 3200W supplies for the GPUs. HPE's ordering rule is 10 or 14 power supplies in total, on 200 to 240 VAC with C19 power cords. Use the HPE Power Advisor for the exact configuration.
