HPE ProLiant DL585a Gen13 Networking Adapters
Genuine HPE network adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL585a Gen13, new and refurbished, shipped tested or factory sealed. The DL585a Gen13 has no embedded networking: HPE lists the network ports as none, and requires either a PCIe stand-up or an OCP 3.0 network adapter. This page covers the Ethernet adapters in both forms, the InfiniBand adapters and data processing units that connect a GPU server to its fabric, and the Fibre Channel host bus adapter HPE lists.
DL585a Gen13 Network Adapter Specifications
- OCP slot: one rear OCP 3.0 slot (OCPA, PCIe 4.0 x4 on processor 1), default quantity 1, maximum one OCP adapter per server; OCP adapters use no PCIe slot
- PCIe slots: up to eight PCIe 6.0 x16 expansion slots — four front full-height full-length, two front full-height 3/4-length, and up to two rear full-height half-length depending on the configuration topology, split across both processors

- Data processing units: HPE DPU InfiniBand NDR200/Ethernet 200Gb 2-port QSFP112 FHHL B3220 and NDR/Ethernet 400Gb 1-port QSFP112 HHHL B3140H, maximum two per server
- Fibre Channel: HPE SN1720E 64Gb 2-port FC SecureHBA
The DL585a Gen13 ships with no network ports at all. HPE lists the network ports as none: every port comes from the one rear OCP 3.0 adapter or from a PCIe 6.0 x16 stand-up card you add. The OCP slot takes one adapter and one cable kit — the Intel E610 kit for the E610-IT4, the General OCP Cable Kit for the Broadcom and Intel E835 adapters. 400GbE, InfiniBand NDR, NDR200 and XDR, the two data processing units and Fibre Channel are PCIe stand-up only, and HPE caps the DPUs at two per server.
Which DL585a Gen13 network adapter do I need?
Choose the fabric first. A GPU server's east-west traffic between nodes runs on InfiniBand or 200/400GbE through the PCIe slots; the OCP slot is the one management and north-south Ethernet connection that costs no PCIe slot.
| Speed and media | OCP 3.0 (one per server) | PCIe stand-up |

Choosing the Right DL585a Gen13 Network Adapter
- One OCP adapter, and its cable kit. HPE allows one OCP 3.0 adapter per server and requires a cable kit with it: the Intel E610 kit for the E610-IT4, the General OCP Cable Kit for the Broadcom and Intel E835 adapters.
- Count the PCIe slots against the GPUs. The eight GPU slots sit on the switchboard and do not reduce the expansion slots, but the topology does: six, seven or eight x16 slots depending on the configuration, with the two rear slots only on the 8-slot and 7-slot topologies.
- Two DPUs at most. HPE caps the data processing units at two per server; the B3220 is a full-height half-length card and the B3140H half-height half-length.
- Match the transceiver to the cage. HPE lists SFP28, QSFP28, QSFP56, QSFP112 and OSFP cages across these adapters; a 10/25Gb SFP28 adapter and a 400Gb OSFP adapter take different optics and cables.
- PCIe 6.0 adapters are the CX8 pair. The XDR/Ethernet 2x400GbE 1-port OSFP and XDR400/Ethernet 400GbE 2-port QSFP112 CX8 Crypto adapters are the two listed on PCIe6 x16; the other InfiniBand adapters are PCIe5 x16.

DL585a Gen13 Networking Adapters FAQ
Does the HPE ProLiant DL585a Gen13 have onboard network ports?
No. HPE lists the network ports as none and requires a PCIe or OCP 3.0 network adapter. One rear OCP 3.0 slot is standard, with a maximum of one OCP adapter per server, so every network port on this server comes from an adapter you add.
What is the fastest network adapter for the DL585a Gen13?
400Gb per port. HPE lists the Slingshot SA410S 400GbE 1-port QSFP NIC, the InfiniBand NDR/Ethernet 400Gb 1-port OSFP and QSFP112 adapters, and the PCIe6 x16 CX8 Crypto adapters: XDR/Ethernet 2x400GbE 1-port OSFP and XDR400/Ethernet 400GbE 2-port QSFP112. All are PCIe stand-up cards.
Does the DL585a Gen13 support InfiniBand?
Yes. HPE lists five InfiniBand adapters: NDR 400Gb 1-port OSFP MCX75310AAS-NEAT, NDR200 200GbE 2-port QSFP112 MCX755106AC-HEAT, NDR 400Gb 1-port QSFP112 MCX715105AS-WEAT, and the XDR CX8 Crypto adapters on PCIe6 x16, plus two data processing units, the B3220 and the B3140H.
Which OCP cable kit does my DL585a Gen13 adapter need?
HPE pairs the Intel E610-IT4 OCP adapter with the DL585a Gen13 OCP Cable Kit for Intel, and the Broadcom BCM57412, Broadcom BCM5719 and Intel E835-XXVDA2 OCP adapters with the DL585a Gen13 General OCP Cable Kit. One kit per server; both are on the parts page under Cable Kits.
Does the DL585a Gen13 support Fibre Channel?
Yes, through one listed host bus adapter: the HPE SN1720E 64Gb 2-port FC SecureHBA, a PCIe stand-up card.
How many network adapters fit in a DL585a Gen13?
One OCP 3.0 adapter plus whatever the PCIe slots allow: six, seven or eight PCIe 6.0 x16 slots depending on the configuration topology, shared with any storage controllers. HPE's switchboard note describes up to eight double-wide GPUs and up to four network adapters on the switchboard itself.
