HPE ProLiant DL525 Gen13 Processors
Genuine 6th Gen AMD EPYC processor kits for the HPE ProLiant DL525 Gen13, new and refurbished, shipped tested or factory sealed. The DL525 Gen13 is a single-socket server: one AMD EPYC 9006 SP7 processor serves all 16 memory channels and all 96 PCIe 6.0 lanes, and its wattage decides the heat sink. HPE lists seven processor kits, from 64 to 256 cores, plus the standard and performance heat sink kits that go with them.
DL525 Gen13 Processor Specifications
- Socket: one AMD SP7 socket; 6th Gen AMD EPYC 9006 series
- Cores: 64 to 256 cores, 128 to 512 threads
- L3 cache: 384MB to 1024MB
- Wattage: 400W to 600W on the listed kits; HPE's figure is each processor's default configurable TDP
- Per processor: up to 4 TB of memory, 16 memory channels and 96 PCIe 6.0 lanes
- Cooling: HPE pairs a 300W processor with the standard heat sink and air baffle, 400W to 600W processors with the performance heat sink, and 300W to 600W processors with the direct liquid cooling cold plate module; every configuration uses the performance fans
- Heat sinks listed: HPE ProLiant DL525 Gen13 Standard Heat Sink Kit and Performance Heat Sink Kit; the HPE ProLiant Gen13 1U High Performance Fan Kit and the DL525 Gen13 Air Baffle Kit are listed under Fan Kits on the parts page
Every processor kit HPE lists for this server takes the performance heat sink. HPE's cooling matrix pairs the 300W class with the standard heat sink and air baffle and 400W to 600W with the performance heat sink, and all seven kits in the Version 1 option list are 400W or more. The only 300W processor in HPE's table, the EPYC 9556, has no kit listed. Order the Performance Heat Sink Kit with the processor, and the high performance fan kit runs with either heat sink.
Which AMD EPYC processor fits the DL525 Gen13?
HPE's processor table and option list for Version 1 of the document:
| Processor | Cores / threads | Base / max GHz | L3 cache | TDP | Heat sink |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AMD EPYC 9996 | 256 / 512 | 2.55 / 4.1 | 1024MB | 600W | Performance |
| AMD EPYC 9966 | 192 / 384 | 3.05 / 4 | 768MB | 600W | Performance |
| AMD EPYC 9846 | 168 / 336 | 2.85 / 3.7 | 768MB | 500W | Performance |
| AMD EPYC 9756 | 128 / 256 | 3.15 / 4 (HPE's kit name says 3.2GHz) | 512MB | 500W | Performance |
| AMD EPYC 9656 | 96 / 192 | 3.05 / 3.7 | 512MB | 400W | Performance |
| AMD EPYC 9686F | 96 / 192 | 4.05 / 5 | 384MB | 600W | Performance |
| AMD EPYC 9586F | 64 / 128 | 3.75 / 5 | 384MB | 500W | Performance |
HPE's processor table also lists the 64-core EPYC 9556 at 300W, the one processor that would take the standard heat sink; the Version 1 option list carries no kit for it, so it is not on this page. Every listed kit is 400W or more and pairs with the performance heat sink.
Choosing the Right DL525 Gen13 Processor
- One socket, one decision. There is no second processor to add later; the DL525 Gen13 holds one EPYC 9006 SP7 processor. Choose the core count and cache for the workload at purchase.
- The F parts trade cores for clock. The EPYC 9686F and 9586F run 4.05GHz and 3.75GHz base with 5GHz max; the 9996, 9966 and 9846 give 168 to 256 cores at lower clocks.
- Wattage sets the cooling. HPE's matrix puts 400W to 600W processors on the performance heat sink with performance fans, and the direct liquid cooling cold plate module covers 300W to 600W. The standard heat sink and air baffle are for the 300W class.
- Every kit carries the same platform limits. HPE notes that all EPYC 9006 SP7 processors support up to 4 TB of memory, 16 memory channels and 96 PCIe 6.0 lanes, so the processor choice does not change the memory or slot budget.
- Memory follows the processor. Pair the processor with the DL525 Gen13 memory family you intend to run, RDIMM at 8000 MT/s or MRDIMM at 12800 MT/s.

DL525 Gen13 Processors FAQ
What processors does the HPE ProLiant DL525 Gen13 support?
6th Gen AMD EPYC 9006 series processors in the SP7 socket. HPE lists seven kits: the EPYC 9996 (256 cores, 600W), 9966 (192 cores, 600W), 9846 (168 cores, 500W), 9756 (128 cores, 500W), 9656 (96 cores, 400W), 9686F (96 cores, 600W) and 9586F (64 cores, 500W).
How many processors does the DL525 Gen13 hold?
One. The DL525 Gen13 is a single-socket server; its one SP7 processor serves all 16 DIMM slots and all 96 PCIe 6.0 lanes, and HPE lists one heat sink per server.
Which heat sink does my DL525 Gen13 processor need?
HPE's cooling matrix pairs a 300W processor with the standard heat sink and air baffle, and 400W to 600W processors with the performance heat sink. Every processor kit in the Version 1 option list is 400W or more, so each of them takes the Performance Heat Sink Kit; both heat sinks run with the performance fan kit.
What is the most powerful processor for the DL525 Gen13?
The AMD EPYC 9996: 256 cores, 512 threads, 2.55GHz base and 4.1GHz max, 1024MB of L3 cache, 600W. For clock speed rather than core count, the EPYC 9686F runs 96 cores at 4.05GHz base and 5GHz max.
Does the DL525 Gen13 support direct liquid cooling?
Yes. HPE's cooling matrix lists a direct liquid cooling cold plate module for processors from 300W to 600W, with the air baffle and performance fans. The cold plate module and its tube sets are factory-integrated (FIO) kits in HPE's document and are not sold as stand-alone parts.
Can I use DL325 Gen12 processors in a DL525 Gen13?
No. The DL325 Gen12 uses 5th Gen AMD EPYC 9005 processors in the SP5 socket; the DL525 Gen13 uses 6th Gen AMD EPYC 9006 processors in the SP7 socket. The processors, heat sinks and memory kits are different parts.
