Two slots is the whole expansion budget and their shapes are not interchangeable. Slot 1 is a low-profile PCIe 2.0 connector with four electrical lanes in an x8 socket; slot 2 is the half-length, full-height PCIe 3.0 x16, and HPE notes PCIe 3.0 support comes with the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2 family only. Choosing the Right DL320e Gen8 Network Adapter
- Start by asking whether you need a card at all. Two 1Gb ports are already on the board, and the dedicated iLO port is separate from them.
- Match the card to the slot shape. One slot is low profile and one full height, so the bracket matters as much as the speed.
- Budget memory for 10GbE: 2GB of server memory per 10 Gigabit adapter, on a platform that holds a maximum of 32GB.
- BASE-T is the cheaper 10GbE path here. The 530T runs on existing copper; the SFP+ adapters need direct attach cables or transceivers.
