HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen10 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE Flex Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen10, new and refurbished. One rule governs every order on this page: mixing two different power supplies is not allowed — and the second thing to check is the input line, because the 1600W unit is documented at 200 to 240 VAC only.

ML350 Gen10 Power Supply Specifications

  • Format: HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) hot-plug supplies, single-output, with a standard C-14 power inlet on the Platinum and Titanium units
  • Outputs stocked: 500W Platinum, 800W in Platinum, Titanium, Universal and −48VDC forms, and 1600W Platinum
  • Efficiency: 94% on the Platinum, Universal and −48VDC units, and 96% on the 800W Titanium
  • Input: 100 to 120 VAC or 200 to 240 VAC per supply; HPE documents the 1600W unit only from 200 VAC, while the 500W and 800W units are rated from 100 VAC
  • Heat output: 1902 BTU/hr on the 500W and 3067 on the 800W at 100 VAC, and 5918 on the 1600W at 200 VAC — in a tower that heat lands in the room the server stands in
  • Redundancy: two Flex Slot supplies give 1+1 redundancy; pre-configured models fitted with the 500W standard non-hot-plug supply are not redundant until the Flex Slot RPS cage kit converts them

Read the input line before the wattage line. HPE documents the 1600W Flex Slot Platinum supply from 200 VAC, where the 500W and 800W units are rated from 100 VAC — so on the 120V circuit a tower is often plugged into, the biggest supply is not an option. And mixing two different power supplies is not allowed at all: output and efficiency grade must both match.

Which Flex Slot Supply Suits Your Tower?

OutputGrades stockedDocumented inputSuits
500WPlatinum, 94%100 to 240 VACOne processor, one drive cage, no accelerators
800WPlatinum and Universal 94%, Titanium 96%, −48VDC100 to 240 VACTwo processors with populated cages — the common choice
1600WPlatinum, 94%200 to 240 VAC onlyHigh-power GPUs and heavily populated towers

Read the input line before the wattage line. HPE rates the 1600W Platinum supply from 200 VAC, so on the 120V circuit a tower is often plugged into it is not a drop-in however much headroom the number suggests. The Titanium unit is the other one worth a second look: at 96% efficiency it is two points better than everything else on the page at the same 800W, which is worth more in a machine that runs continuously than the wattage step above it.

Choosing the Right ML350 Gen10 Power Supply

  • Read the label on the installed unit first. HPE does not allow two different power supplies in one server, so the supply already fitted is the specification for the second.
  • Four different 800W units are listed, and they do not mix. Platinum, Titanium, Universal and −48VDC are the same wattage and still a mismatch for one another.
  • Redundancy means a matched pair. One supply is not redundant whatever its rating, and hot-plug replacement only helps when a second unit carries the load.
  • A non-hot-plug tower needs the cage before it needs a second supply. Pre-configured models built with the 500W standard supply take the Flex Slot RPS cage kit as a field upgrade first.
  • −48VDC and Universal are different worlds. The −48VDC unit belongs on DC rectifier feeds and the Universal unit on 277VAC or 380VDC inputs, not on a standard wall circuit.

Power draw follows the processors and the cage count — see ML350 Gen10 processors and drives before sizing a supply. ML350 Gen10 Power Supplies FAQ

Can I mix power supplies in an ML350 Gen10?
No. HPE states that mixing two different power supplies is not allowed, so both units must be the same output and the same efficiency grade. Two 800W supplies are still a mismatch if one is Platinum and the other Titanium.

What wattage power supply does an ML350 Gen10 need?
It depends on the build. 500W suits a lightly loaded single-processor tower, 800W covers most two-processor machines with populated drive cages, and HPE recommends the 1600W unit where high-power GPUs are fitted.

Will the 1600W supply work on a normal wall socket?
HPE documents the 1600W Flex Slot Platinum supply at 200 to 240 VAC, where the 500W and 800W units are rated from 100 VAC. On a 120V circuit it is not an option.

Are ML350 Gen10 power supplies hot-plug?
The Flex Slot supplies are. Some pre-configured models shipped instead with a 500W standard non-hot-plug supply, which HPE describes as non-redundant and field upgradeable through the Flex Slot RPS cage kit.

How do I get power redundancy on this server?
Fit two matching HPE Flex Slot power supplies, which HPE describes as providing 1+1 power redundancy. A machine built with the standard non-hot-plug supply needs the Flex Slot RPS cage kit before a second unit can go in.

What is the 800W Universal power supply for?
High-voltage feeds. HPE rates it for 277VAC and 380VDC power inputs at up to 94% efficiency, which is a data-centre distribution scheme rather than a standard wall or rack circuit.
