Does the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen12 support 3.5-inch LFF drives?
No. The DL580 Gen12 is SFF and EDSFF only: 2.5-inch U.3 bays and E3.S NVMe bays, up to 32 drives. If you need LFF capacity spindles, they'd live in external storage rather than this chassis.

What is the maximum storage capacity of the DL580 Gen12?
Over 490TB of NVMe flash internally, using 32 EDSFF bays with 15.36TB E3.S SSDs. U.3 SFF configurations reach similar totals with 15.36TB 2.5-inch NVMe or SAS SSDs.

Can I use drives from a Gen9 or Gen10 ProLiant in the DL580 Gen12?
No - those generations use the Smart Carrier (SC) tray, while Gen12 bays take Basic Carrier (BC) and EDSFF drives. The carriers are not interchangeable, so drives must be sourced in the correct Gen12 carrier.

Are HPE Multi Vendor SSDs genuine HPE drives?
Yes. Multi Vendor (MV) SSDs are HPE-qualified, HPE-firmware drives sourced from multiple flash manufacturers to improve availability and price. They carry HPE part numbers and full compatibility with the DL580 Gen12.

What's the difference between Read Intensive and Mixed Use SSDs?
Endurance. Read Intensive drives are rated around 1 drive write per day and cost less per TB; Mixed Use drives are rated around 3 DWPD for write-heavy databases and virtualization. Match the class to your write workload and never mix classes in one array.

Do DL580 Gen12 NVMe drives require a RAID controller?
Not necessarily. NVMe drives can run direct-attached for maximum performance with software or VROC RAID, or connect through a tri-mode MR controller (like the MR416i or MR932i-p) when you want hardware RAID across NVMe, SAS, or SATA.
