Genuine HPE-qualified Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 and E5-2600 processor kits for the HPE ProLiant DL380p Gen8, new and refurbished. The p is the performance line — two sockets on the Intel C600 chipset, up to 24 cores — while the entry-level DL380e Gen8 takes Intel Xeon E5-2400 kits, which do not fit here.

- Maximum cores: 24 with two 12-core E5-2697 v2, against 16 with the E5-2600 series, which stops at eight cores per socket
- Chipset and QPI: Intel C600 for both families at 6.4 to 8.0 GT/s — memory speed is a function of the QPI bus speed
- Hyper-Threading: listed on every Base and Performance model; the Entry parts are printed without it
Processors go in as a matched pair. Up to two are supported and mixing different processor models is not supported, so an upgrade is two identical kits rather than a spare CPU in the empty socket. The processor you choose also caps memory speed — 1866MHz needs an E5-2600 v2 Performance part — and the second one is what brings the optional riser and the other 12 DIMM slots into use.
Which processors does the DL380p Gen8 support?

The v2 column is where the cores are: 12 cores and 30MB of L3 at the top against eight cores and 20MB on the E5-2600, and it is the only family that reaches DDR3-1866. It is also what the accelerator cards want — the Quadro K6000, both GRID cards, the Tesla K40C and the Xeon Phi are listed as E5-2600 v2 only.
Choosing the Right DL380p Gen8 Processor
- Both sockets take the same part. An upgrade is a matched pair, not a spare CPU dropped into the empty socket.
- The second processor unlocks the box. It brings the optional riser and its extra PCIe slots into play, doubles usable DIMM slots to 24, and raises the fan count to six.
- Read the memory column. 1866MHz needs an E5-2600 v2 Performance part; the Entry parts cap at 1333MHz on v2 and 1066MHz on the E5-2600 series.
- Cores or clock, not both. The 12-core E5-2697 v2 tops the count at 2.7GHz and 130W; the 4-core E5-2637 v2 runs 3.5GHz at the same TDP.
- Watch TDP against your power feed. The 135W E5-2690 and the 130W parts are where a pair starts to argue with a 460W supply.

What is the maximum core count of the DL380p Gen8?
Twenty-four cores, from two 12-core E5-2697 v2 or E5-2695 v2 processors. With the earlier E5-2600 series the maximum is 16 cores, since those parts top out at eight cores each.
Can I upgrade a DL380p Gen8 from E5-2600 to E5-2600 v2 processors?
HPE documents the upgrade from Intel Xeon E5-2600 to E5-2600 v2 and points to a Customer Advisory of requirements and limitations to read first. Both sockets must end up on the same model, so plan it as a matched pair.
Can I mix processor models in a DL380p Gen8?
No. The QuickSpecs state that up to 2 processors are supported and that mixing different processor models is not supported. Performance and Energy Star model configurations ship with two processors already installed.
Will DL380e Gen8 processors fit a DL380p Gen8?
No. The DL380p Gen8 takes Intel Xeon E5-2600 and E5-2600 v2 kits; the entry-level DL380e Gen8 takes the Intel Xeon E5-2400 family. They are separate platforms with separate QuickSpecs and separate processor part numbers.
Does the second processor change what the DL380p Gen8 can do?
Yes, in three ways. The second processor must be installed to populate the optional riser slot, which adds up to three more PCIe slots; it brings 12 more DIMM slots into use; and 2P models carry six fans against four on 1P models.
