HPE ProLiant DL380a Gen12 Power Supplies
Genuine HPE M-CRPS power supplies for the HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12, new and refurbished. This chassis holds up to eight hot-plug supplies, and HPE specifies how many you need — and at what wattage — by the number and type of GPUs installed.
DL380a Gen12 Power Supply Specifications
- Family: HPE Modular Common Redundant Power Supply (M-CRPS), hot-plug and tool-less, in 73.5mm and 60mm widths across the ProLiant Compute Gen12 range; bays 1 to 8 at the rear
- Kits listed: HPE 2400W M-CRPS Titanium Hot Plug Power Supply Kit, HPE 3200W M-CRPS Titanium Hot Plug Power Supply Kit, and HPE 2800W M-CRPS 277VAC Titanium Hot Plug Power Supply Kit
- Efficiency: up to 96%; the 2400W and 3200W kits are 96% efficient single-output supplies meeting EU Lot 9
- Input: rated line voltage 200–240 VAC per supply in HPE's technical specifications; the 2800W kit is a 277VAC part
- Quantity by GPU count: five supplies (two for the system board, three for the GPUs) for 2 or 4 double-wide GPUs; eight for 8 or 10 double-wide GPUs
- Wattage by GPU type: 2400W or 3200W supplies are required for H100 NVL, H200 NVL and RTX PRO 6000 GPUs
- Rules: mixing of power supplies is not allowed; the 2400W and 3200W kits support C19 and C19-C20 power cords only
- Heat: 8572 BTU/hr maximum per 2400W supply and 10577 BTU/hr per 3200W supply at 200 VAC
The GPU count fixes the power supply count, and every supply must match. HPE requires five M-CRPS supplies for a 2- or 4-GPU build (two for the system board, three for the GPUs) and eight for 8 or 10 GPUs, all of one wattage because mixing is not allowed. H100 NVL, H200 NVL and RTX PRO 6000 accelerators need 2400W or 3200W kits, and the GPU Upgrade Kit adds three more supplies of the same capacity to a five-supply chassis.
Which DL380a Gen12 power supply, and how many?
| Kit | Output | Input | Power cord | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HPE 2400W M-CRPS Titanium | 2400W, 96% efficient | 200–240 VAC | C19 / C19-C20 | H200 NVL and RTX PRO 6000 builds where 2400W clears the HPE Power Advisor figure |
| HPE 3200W M-CRPS Titanium | 3200W, 96% efficient | 200–240 VAC | C19 / C19-C20 | Fully loaded 8- and 10-GPU builds |
| HPE 2800W M-CRPS 277VAC Titanium | 2800W | 277VAC | Not stated | Facilities distributing 277V to the rack |
The count is not optional. HPE requires five supplies for a 2- or 4-GPU configuration and eight for 8 or 10 GPUs, all of one wattage, and the GPU Upgrade Kit spells out the consequence: if five supplies are installed, three more of the same capacity are required to power the added switchboards. HPE recommends running the HPE Power Advisor before choosing a wattage.
Choosing the Right DL380a Gen12 Power Supply
- Buy the wattage already fitted. Mixing power supplies is not allowed, so an added or replacement supply matches the others exactly.
- Count against the GPUs, not the sockets. Five for 2 or 4 double-wide GPUs, eight for 8 or 10; a GPU upgrade from five supplies means three more in the same order.
- Check the GPU model before choosing 2400W or 3200W. The NVL and RTX PRO 6000 accelerators rule out anything smaller; the Power Advisor decides between the two.
- Sort the power cords with the supplies. The 2400W and 3200W kits take C19 or C19-C20 cords only, and cords must match the number of supplies.
- The 277VAC kit is for 277V facilities. Same M-CRPS family, different input from the 200–240 VAC the other two kits quote.
- On the P74461-B21 8DW chassis, more than five supplies also means a PDB kit. The P76706-B21 does not need one.

DL380a Gen12 Power Supplies FAQ
How many power supplies does the DL380a Gen12 need?
Five for a 2- or 4-GPU configuration - two for the system board components and three for the GPUs - and eight for an 8- or 10-GPU configuration. The chassis has bays for up to eight M-CRPS supplies.
Which power supply wattage does a DL380a Gen12 need?
HPE requires 2400W or 3200W supplies when H100 NVL, H200 NVL or RTX PRO 6000 GPUs are configured, and recommends running the HPE Power Advisor to size the supply for the exact configuration. The 2800W kit is a 277VAC part for facilities that distribute 277V.
Can I mix 2400W and 3200W power supplies in a DL380a Gen12?
No. HPE states that mixing of power supplies is not allowed, so every supply in the chassis must be the same kit.
What power cord do the DL380a Gen12 power supplies use?
The 2400W and 3200W kits support C19 and C19-C20 power cords only. HPE notes that on the 8DW/16SW chassis the cords must be selected to match the number of supplies installed.
What is an M-CRPS power supply?
HPE's Modular Common Redundant Power Supply, the hot-plug, tool-less power supply family used across ProLiant Compute Gen12 performance servers. M-CRPS supplies are single-output, rated up to 96% efficient, and come in two physical widths, 73.5mm and 60mm.
Do I need more power supplies if I add GPUs later?
Usually yes. HPE's GPU Upgrade Kit, which takes a server built with fewer than 8 GPUs up to 8, states that if five power supplies are installed, three additional supplies of the same capacity are required to power the added switchboards.
