HPE ProLiant SL4545 G7 Power Supplies
Genuine HPE Common Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant SL4545 G7, new and refurbished. These are chassis parts rather than node parts: the supplies sit at the rear of the SL454x chassis and feed every server node in it, which is why HPE warns that cutting AC to them takes down all of those servers at once.
SL4545 G7 Power Supply Specifications
- Format: HPE Common Slot (CS) hot-plug supplies, mounted in the chassis and shared by every node in it
- Outputs stocked: 750W and 1200W Common Slot Platinum Plus, and 750W Common Slot Gold
- Efficiency: up to 94% on the Platinum Plus units, which also support Intelligent Power Discovery, and up to 92% on the Gold unit
- Input: 100 to 120 VAC or 200 to 240 VAC at 50 to 60Hz; the 1200W unit draws 10A at 100 VAC and 4.9A at 200 VAC, the 750W unit 8.9A and 4.3A
- High line dependency: the 1200W supply delivers 800W at 100 VAC and 900W at 120 VAC, reaching 1200W only between 200 and 240 VAC; the 750W unit holds 750W across the range
- Mixing and cooling: mixing supplies in one server is not supported and mismatched units fail with errors; the chassis ships with five dual fan modules, and each kit contains an IEC power cable and PDU IEC cables
These supplies are shared, and mixing them is not supported. They sit at the rear of the chassis and feed every server node in it, so cutting their AC takes down all of them at once. Every supply must match on output and efficiency rating — two 750W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum Plus and the other Gold.
Which Common Slot Supply Does the Chassis Need?

The last column is the one that catches people out. On a 100 VAC feed the 1200W unit delivers 800W against the 750W unit's 750W — a 50W gain for a far larger supply — and at 120 VAC it reaches 900W. The 1200W figure is a high line rating and nothing else, so the step up only pays where the rack is fed at 200 to 240 VAC.
Choosing the Right SL4545 G7 Power Supply
- Read the label on the installed unit first. Matching output and efficiency rating is a requirement rather than a preference, so whatever is fitted is the specification.
- Platinum Plus and Gold do not mix. Two 750W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum Plus and the other Gold, and HPE says mismatched supplies fail with errors.
- Size for the chassis, not for one node. These supplies carry every server in it, so a 3x15 with three nodes and 45 drives is a different budget from a light 1x60.
- Only a high line feed gets 1200W. Between 200 and 240 VAC the 1200W unit delivers its rating; at 120 VAC it gives 900W and at 100 VAC 800W.
- Expect a PDU cord, not a wall cord. HPE ships SL servers with an IEC to IEC PDU cord; a NEMA cord for a 110V receptacle is a separate order.

Are SL4545 G7 power supplies part of the node or the chassis?
The chassis. They sit at its rear and are shared by every server node in it. HPE says so directly: switching off the chassis supplies at the PDU results in the loss of all servers in that chassis.
Can I mix power supplies in an SL4545 G7?
No. All supplies must be of the same output and the same efficiency rating. HPE states that non-matched supplies produce errors and operation will fail.
What wattage power supply does an SL4545 G7 need?
It depends on how many nodes and drives the chassis carries. The 750W Platinum Plus and Gold units cover lighter configurations; the 1200W Platinum Plus is for a full chassis on a 200 to 240 VAC feed.
Why is my 1200W supply not delivering 1200W?
Because that rating applies on high line power only. HPE rates the same unit at 800W on 100 VAC and 900W on 120 VAC, reaching 1200W between 200 and 240 VAC.
What is the difference between Platinum Plus and Gold?
Efficiency. Platinum Plus units are rated up to 94% and support Intelligent Power Discovery; the Gold unit is rated up to 92%. The two grades cannot be mixed in one chassis.
