SL335s G7 Power Supply Specifications
- Format: HPE Common Slot (CS) hot-plug supplies, fitted to the 4U HPE ProLiant s6500 chassis rather than to the individual server tray
- Outputs stocked: 750W in Platinum and Gold, and 1200W in Platinum and Silver
- Efficiency: the Common Slot range is rated up to 94%; at 240V the 750W Platinum measures 93.2% to the Gold unit's 91.5%, and the 1200W Platinum 93% to the Silver unit's 89%
- Input: 100 to 240V at 50/60Hz on every unit stocked here, UL and CE Mark compliant
- Redundancy: the supplies are hot plug and redundant, with the redundancy actually available depending on how the nodes in the chassis are configured
- Cooling: a separate chassis decision — all eight s6500 fan bays must be filled, and the redundant and non-redundant fan kits contain one fan each

The 1200W units are the trap here. Both deliver their full 1200W only from 200V upward; on a 120V feed they are 900W supplies and on 100V they are 800W, well short of what a chassis sized on the nameplate expects. The 750W units hold 750W across the whole range, and efficiency grade counts for more here than on one server, because a single set of supplies carries up to eight trays for years.
Choosing the Right SL335s G7 Power Supply
- Size for the chassis, not for the tray. Every node draws from these supplies, so the total across the chassis is what matters, and HPE publishes a Power Advisor for working it out.
- Check the rack feed before buying 1200W. At 100V or 120V a 1200W Common Slot unit gives 800W or 900W, so the high-line feed is part of the specification rather than a footnote.
- Read the label on what is already fitted. The installed supply records the output and efficiency grade the chassis was built around, the quickest route to a correct order.
- A switched PDU is not a way to power down one node. Cutting AC to the chassis supplies takes down every server in it, because the nodes share them. HPE's SL Advanced Power Manager switches a single node instead.
- Do not leave empty bays unblanked. A node blank is needed for every unfilled 1U half-width space, and all eight fan bays have to be populated to cool properly.
