HPE ProLiant DL360 G7 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE Common Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL360 G7, new and refurbished. The chassis has two power supply bays with one populated as standard, and HPE is blunt about the second: only same-size supplies are recommended, and non-matched supplies produce errors and failed operation.

DL360 G7 Power Supply Specifications

  • Format: HPE Common Slot (CS) hot-plug supplies, the shared bay design used across several ProLiant generations
  • Bays: two, with bay 1 populated from the factory and bay 2 free for a second supply
  • Outputs stocked: 460W and 750W, each in Gold and Platinum efficiency grades, and 1200W — the 460W Gold unit is standard on most models
  • Efficiency: Common Slot supplies are rated up to 94%, across Silver, Gold and Platinum grades
  • DC option: a 1200W Common Slot −48VDC unit for racks fed by DC rectifiers, supplied with a −48V DC cord
  • Redundancy: optional 1+1 or N+N configurations through power supply option kits, which contain the supply, an IEC power cable and PDU IEC cables
  • Cooling: three fan modules ship standard on single-processor models and four on dual-processor models, with fan redundancy standard on all of them

Mixing power supplies is not supported. HPE states that only same-size supplies are recommended in a multi-bay server, and that non-matched units produce errors and failed operation — two 460W supplies are still a mismatch if one is Gold and the other Platinum. Read the label in bay 1 before ordering for bay 2.

Which wattage does your configuration need?

OutputGrades listedSuits
460WGold, PlatinumStandard on most models: one or two processors, four bays, no add-in cards
750WGold, PlatinumTwo processors with eight bays populated and cards in both slots
1200WSilver, −48VDCThe heaviest builds, and the graphics adapter option that requires a higher-power supply

A 1U server does not draw what a 2U one does, and the 460W unit being standard on most models says how modest the usual budget is. Oversizing costs efficiency as well as money, since a supply running far below its rating sits away from its best efficiency point. HPE publishes a Power Advisor for sizing a specific configuration; the honest shortcut on a server of this age is to match what is already fitted unless it has gained a processor, four more drives or a graphics card since.

Choosing the Right DL360 G7 Power Supply

  • Read the label on the installed unit first. Matching the supply already in bay 1 is a requirement rather than a preference, so that label is the specification for the second one.
  • Efficiency grades do not mix either. Two 460W units are still a mismatch if one is Gold and the other Platinum.
  • Redundancy needs two matching units. A 1+1 configuration is two identical supplies; a single supply in a two-bay chassis is not redundant, whatever its rating.
  • A PCI graphics card changes the sum. HPE's Quadro 4000 option for this server calls for the PCI Thermal Power Kit and a higher-power Common Slot supply, not just a free slot.
  • −48VDC is a different world. The DC unit belongs in racks fed by DC rectifiers and ships with a DC cord; it is not an alternative to an AC supply on a standard rack feed.

DL360 G7 Power Supplies FAQ

Can I mix power supplies in a DL360 G7?
No. HPE states that only same-size power supplies are recommended in a server with more than one power bay, and that non-matched supplies produce errors and failed operation. Match the output and the efficiency grade.

How many power supplies does a DL360 G7 hold?
Two. The server has two Common Slot power supply bays, with bay 1 populated from the factory and bay 2 available for a second, matching supply in a 1+1 redundant pair.

What wattage power supply does a DL360 G7 need?
It depends on the configuration. The 460W Common Slot unit is standard on most models; 750W suits a two-processor server with eight drives and both slots filled, and 1200W covers the heaviest builds.

Are DL360 G7 power supplies hot-plug?
Yes. The Common Slot supplies are hot-plug, and in a redundant pair one can be replaced while the server continues to run.

What is the minus 48VDC power supply for?
Racks fed by DC power rectifiers rather than an AC supply, as found in some telecommunications environments. It supplies up to 1200 watts, ships with a minus 48V DC cord, and is not interchangeable with the AC units.

How many fans does a DL360 G7 have?
Three fan modules on single-processor models and four on dual-processor models, with fan redundancy standard. The processor option kit includes the extra fan module needed when going from one processor to two.
