HPE ProLiant DL360 G7 Storage Controllers
Genuine HPE Smart Array controllers, cache modules and host bus adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL360 G7, new and refurbished. Storage starts on the embedded Smart Array P410i, which HPE rates for all eight SFF bays — and what that controller can do depends on the cache module attached to it, because RAID 5 is a cache feature on this generation.

- Embedded controller: HPE Smart Array P410i, fitted at the factory as Zero Memory, with 256MB, or with a 1GB flash backed write cache, and designed to manage up to eight SFF drives
- RAID levels: 0, 1 and 1+0 on the Zero Memory build; RAID 5 and 5+0 once a cache module is present
- Add-in cards: P212 with zero memory or 256MB, P411 in 256MB, 512MB BBWC, 512MB FBWC and 1GB FBWC forms, and P812 with 1GB FBWC, all on PCIe x8
- P812 on this chassis: it reaches the eight internal bays as well as external storage, but only with the Mini-SAS to Mini-SAS cable kit fitted
- Cache and battery upgrades: the 256MB module for the P410i and the P212, the 512MB battery backed cache, the 512MB and 1GB flash backed modules documented for the P410i only, and the 650 mAh battery kit that turns a 256MB cache into BBWC
- Host bus adapters: the SC08e external SAS HBA, approved for the StorageWorks P2000 G3 SAS Modular Smart Array, and the SC11Xe Ultra320 SCSI HBA for legacy tape
RAID 5 is a cache feature on this generation. The embedded Smart Array P410i shipped three ways: Zero Memory with RAID 0, 1 and 1+0 only, with a 256MB cache that adds RAID 5 and 5+0, or with a 1GB flash backed write cache. If the array needs RAID 5 and the card has no cache, the cache module is the part to buy.

There is no Smart Array P410 add-in card in this server's option list, and that is the shape of the decision: the embedded P410i already owns the backplane, so an add-in card here is almost always about reaching storage outside the chassis. Remember what a card costs you in 1U — there are two PCIe slots in total, so a controller and a network card fill the server.
Choosing the Right DL360 G7 Storage Controller
- Decide internal or external before choosing a model number. A P411 will not drive the internal backplane however much cache it carries.
- Check the cache module against the card. The 256MB upgrade is listed for the P410i and the P212; the 512MB and 1GB flash backed modules are documented for the P410i only.
- Battery backed and flash backed cache are not interchangeable. BBWC depends on a battery that ages, and a 256MB module needs the separate 650 mAh battery kit before it is battery backed; FBWC uses flash and a supercapacitor instead.

Which RAID controller does the DL360 G7 come with?
An embedded HPE Smart Array P410i, designed to manage up to eight SFF drives. HPE shipped it three ways: Zero Memory on Entry and Efficiency models, a 256MB cache on Base models, and a 1GB flash backed write cache on Performance models.
Does the DL360 G7 support RAID 5?
Yes, once the embedded P410i has a cache module fitted. The Zero Memory build is limited to RAID 0, 1 and 1+0; adding 256MB or more brings RAID 5 and 5+0.
What is the difference between BBWC and FBWC?
Battery backed write cache holds the cache contents on a rechargeable battery, which degrades over time. Flash backed write cache writes the contents to flash using a supercapacitor, so there is no battery to replace.
Can I run the internal drives from a P812?
Yes, but not out of the box. HPE states that the P812 supports the eight internal drives on this server only when the Mini-SAS to Mini-SAS 25.50-inch and 28.00-inch option kit is fitted.
Can I connect external storage to a DL360 G7?
Yes. The Smart Array P411 provides two external ports and the P812 four. The SC08e host bus adapter is also listed, though HPE approves it specifically for the StorageWorks P2000 G3 SAS Modular Smart Array.
Will a full-height Smart Array card fit either slot?
No. Of the two PCI Express slots, only one is full-length and full-height; the other is low profile. A full-height card fits in exactly one of them, and the optional PCI-X riser takes over that same slot.
