HPE Retired Model Server Parts
HPE Retired Model Server Parts groups ProLiant servers that HPE no longer produces. Retired describes the production status of the machine, not its shape and not its usefulness: these servers are still running, the part numbers are still listed, and each model below has its own parts page built the same way as every other model page on this site. Every part is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships.
What a Retired Model Means Here
- It is a status, not a form factor: the other families on this site group servers by chassis design. This one groups them by the fact that HPE has stopped building them, so the range covers rack and pedestal machines together.
- The naming predates DL, ML and BL: models here carry a bare number — ProLiant 1600, 6000, 8500 — from before ProLiant split into lettered lines. If your server has a number and no letters, this is the right family.
- Read the whole number: the range packs its numbers closely together, and the ProLiant 6000, 6400 and 6500 are three different machines. Take the model from the chassis label rather than from memory.
- The CL models are the cluster-branded members: the CL380 and CL1850 belong to the same range under a different prefix and are listed here with the rest.
- Parts do not carry forward: drive carriers, power supplies and memory from this era do not interchange with the DL and ML generations that followed. Order against the model in front of you, not against a similar-looking part from a later server.
- The listings work the same way: each model page shows the part numbers held for that server, with live pricing where there is a product behind the part number, exactly as on a Gen10 or Gen11 page.
Retired is a production status, not a verdict on the machine. HPE no longer builds these servers; the part numbers are still listed here, model by model, with live pricing where there is a product behind the number. What does change is compatibility — drive carriers, power supplies and memory from this era do not interchange with the DL and ML generations that followed.

Models with a letter prefix are grouped by chassis instead: rack servers in ProLiant DL Rack Server Parts, towers in ProLiant ML Tower Server Parts, blades in ProLiant BL Blade Server Parts, and trays in ProLiant SL Scalable Server Parts or ProLiant XL Server Parts. Those families include plenty of models HPE has also stopped building, so a G5 or G6 server belongs there rather than here. Every family sits under HPE parts by server model.
HPE Retired Model Server Parts FAQ
What does retired model mean here?
It means HPE no longer produces the server. It does not mean the machine is out of service and it does not mean the parts have stopped being listed - each model below has its own parts page.
Why are these grouped together rather than by chassis type?
Because they predate the DL, ML and BL naming, so there is no letter to group them by. The range covers both rack and pedestal machines, which is why the grouping is by production status.
How do I identify one of these servers?
By the model number on the chassis label. The numbers sit close together - the ProLiant 6000, 6400 and 6500 are three different machines - so read the whole number before ordering.
Can I use parts from a later ProLiant in these servers?
Generally no. Memory type, drive carrier and power supply form factor all changed with the DL and ML generations that followed, so order against the model rather than against a part that looks similar.
What are the CL models?
The CL380 and the CL1850 are the cluster-branded members of the same numbered range. They are listed here alongside the rest of the numbered ProLiant servers.
My server is a DL380 G4. Does it belong in this family?
No. Anything with a DL, ML, BL, SL, XL or WS prefix is grouped by chassis type, however old it is, so a DL380 G4 is in ProLiant DL Rack Server Parts.
