The 16GB kit reaches the 256GB per server the Overview quotes, and it gets there by filling every slot: sixteen kits for one server, thirty-two for a tray, since each HPE option kit is a single DIMM. The 512GB figure needs the 32GB module, which is not a part we list.

Choosing the Right XL730f Gen9 Memory

  • A heat spreader DIMM is not a generic Gen9 RDIMM. HPE states these modules are specifically for the ProLiant XL730f Gen9 and should not be used in any other server, and the rule runs both ways: a standard DDR4 RDIMM out of a rack server is not a substitute here.
  • Older SmartMemory does not carry over. HPE memory from previous generation servers is not qualified on this server.

  • Populate to the processors you have. Fit DIMMs only where the matching processor is installed, and put the heaviest load in a channel furthest from the processor.
  • Mixing is allowed but it costs you. RDIMMs at 1.35V and 1.5V may be mixed, though the system then powers them all at the higher voltage, and mixed speeds resolve to one common optimal speed.
