HPE ProLiant DL585 G7 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE Common Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL585 G7, new and refurbished. This platform is built around a single output: 1200W. Two rules govern every order on this page — supplies in one server must be exactly the same model, and that 1200W is a high-line number, not what the unit delivers on a 120V feed.

DL585 G7 Power Supply Specifications

  • Format: HPE Common Slot (CS) hot-plug supplies at 1200W, the only output HPE lists for this server, in Silver and Platinum grades
  • Quantity shipped: two hot-plug supplies on two-processor models, four on four-processor models
  • Output per supply: 910W rated steady-state and peak on low line, 1300W on high line
  • Input per supply: 100–127 VAC or 200–240 VAC at 50 to 60Hz, drawing 12A at 100 VAC or 8A at 200 VAC
  • Mixing: not supported — all supplies inside one server must be exactly the same model, and Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus certified units cannot be mixed
  • Redundancy: optional 1+1 or N+N through power supply option kits; the server inventories its own configuration and reports the redundancy level the fitted supplies support at power on, with an RBSU override available

1200W is a high-line figure. Each Common Slot supply is rated for 910W steady state on a 100 to 127 VAC feed and 1300W on 200 to 240 VAC, which is why a four-socket build belongs on high line. Mixing is not supported either: every supply in one server must be exactly the same model.

Why Does a 1200W Supply Deliver Only 910W?

Per supplyLow line (100–127 VAC)High line (200–240 VAC)
Rated input current12A at 100 VAC8A at 200 VAC
Rated input power1161W at 100 VAC1598W at 240 VAC
Rated steady-state output910W1300W
Maximum BTU rating3960 BTU/hr at 100 VAC5450 BTU/hr at 200 VAC

The gap between 910W and 1300W is the reason a four-socket server belongs on a 200–240V feed. A fully built DL585 G7 — four high-wattage Opterons, a loaded memory bank and a populated drive cage — asks for more from each supply than low line will give, and HPE publishes a Power Advisor precisely because this configuration varies so widely. Where the machine is being rebuilt rather than resupplied, size it there first.

Choosing the Right DL585 G7 Power Supply

  • Match the model, not just the wattage. HPE requires every supply in one server to be exactly the same model, so the label on the installed unit is the specification for the replacement.
  • Efficiency grades do not mix either. Two 1200W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum and the other is not.
  • Adding processors means adding supplies. Two-processor models ship two supplies and four-processor models ship four, so a 2P to 4P upgrade is a power question as well as a processor one.
  • Do not infer redundancy from the bay count. The server works out what level of redundancy the fitted supplies actually support and reports it during power on; a full complement of supplies is not by itself a guarantee.
  • Feed a heavily configured chassis high line. At 100 VAC each supply is rated for 910W steady state rather than 1300W, which narrows the headroom fast on a four-socket build.

Power draw follows the socket count more than anything else here — see DL585 G7 processors and memory before sizing a supply. DL585 G7 Power Supplies FAQ

Can I mix power supplies in a DL585 G7?
No. HPE states that all power supplies inside one server must be exactly the same model, and that mixing Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus certified supplies is not supported.

What wattage power supply does a DL585 G7 use?
1200W. HPE lists Common Slot hot-plug supplies for this server at a single output of 1200W, in Silver and Platinum grades, rather than the 460W and 750W options offered on smaller ProLiants.

How many power supplies does a DL585 G7 need?
Two ship as standard with two-processor models and four with four-processor models. Optional 1+1 or N+N redundant configurations are available through power supply option kits.

Why is my 1200W supply only rated for 910W?
Because 1200W is a high-line figure. Each supply is rated for 910W steady-state output on a 100 to 127 VAC feed and 1300W on a 200 to 240 VAC feed.

Are DL585 G7 power supplies hot-plug?
Yes. The Common Slot supplies are hot-plug, so in a redundant configuration one can be replaced while the server keeps running.

How do I know whether my configuration is actually redundant?
The server inventories its own configuration and reports the level of redundancy the fitted supplies support during power on. HPE also publishes a Power Advisor for sizing a specific build, and RBSU carries an override switch.
