HPE ProLiant DL120 Gen9 Parts
The HPE ProLiant DL120 Gen9 is the entry 1U single-socket rack server of the Gen9 line: one Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processor on the Intel C610 chipset, eight DDR4 DIMM slots, and a front end of either eight small form factor bays or four large form factor bays. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.
DL120 Gen9 Platform at a Glance
- Processor: one Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4, or an E5-1600 v3 or v4, from four cores up to the 22-core E5-2699v4 with 55MB of L3 cache
- Memory: 8 DDR4 slots — four channels, two DIMMs per channel — taking Registered or Load Reduced DIMMs to a maximum of 256GB
- Drive bays: eight hot-plug SFF bays, four hot-plug LFF bays, or four non-hot-plug LFF bays, each configuration also carrying an optical drive bay
- Maximum internal storage: 16.0TB on eight 2TB SFF drives, 40.0TB on four 10TB LFF drives, or 30.72TB on eight 3.84TB SFF solid state drives
- Storage controller: embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i on entry models, which is SATA only, or the HPE H240 Smart Host Bus Adapter on base models
- Networking: embedded HPE Dual Port 361i adapter on the Intel I350 controller, two 1GbE RJ-45 ports, with a FlexibleLOM slot available through a riser
- Expansion: PCI Express 3.0 throughout — one low-profile slot as standard, rising to three with the optional riser kits
- Power and cooling: a 550W supply at 80 Plus Silver, or AC 240VDC power input modules at 80 Plus Gold on a redundant power backplane; three hot-swap fans, five with redundancy
- Management: HPE iLO 4 with 2GB NAND, Intelligent Provisioning, UEFI boot with a Legacy BIOS option, and a Micro SD slot
Two things decide most DL120 Gen9 orders: the socket count and the front end. This is a one-socket server — all eight DDR4 slots are live with the single processor fitted, and 256GB is the ceiling. In front, the chassis was built as eight SFF bays or four LFF bays, and the two are not interchangeable.
Specifications on this page are taken from the HPE QuickSpecs for this server, HPE ProLiant DL120 Generation9 (Gen9) QuickSpecs, Version 27.

DL120 Gen9 Parts FAQ
Is the DL120 Gen9 a one-socket or two-socket server?
One socket. HPE describes it as a 1U single-socket design, every pre-configured and configure-to-order model lists one processor, and the eight DIMM slots are all served by that single processor.
What processors does the DL120 Gen9 support?
A single Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4, or an E5-1600 v3 or v4, on the Intel C610 chipset. The documented range runs from the 4-core E5-1620v4 and 6-core E5-2603v3 up to the 22-core E5-2699v4.
How much memory can a DL120 Gen9 take?
256GB. The server has eight DDR4 slots across four channels at two DIMMs per channel, and reaches the ceiling with eight 32GB modules, either Registered or Load Reduced.
How many drives does a DL120 Gen9 hold?
Eight if it is the SFF chassis, four if it is LFF. HPE built this server as an 8SFF hot-plug, a 4LFF hot-plug or a 4LFF non-hot-plug configure-to-order chassis, and each one also has an optical drive bay.
Which RAID controller is built into the DL120 Gen9?
Entry models carry the embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i, which supports up to 8 SATA drives with RAID 0, 1, 1+0 and 5. It does not speak SAS - base models ship the H240 Smart HBA instead.
How many PCIe slots does a DL120 Gen9 have?
One low-profile PCIe 3.0 slot as standard, and up to three once the optional riser kits are fitted. The third slot is a FlexibleLOM connector, a full-height half-length PCIe slot or a full-length GPU slot, depending on the riser.
